Canadian made version of the PBY Catalina. Used for convoy escort, submarine hunting and reconnaissance. 1 Victoria Cross winner David Hornell for his actions against an enemy sub. 1 Distinguished Flying Cross to Leonard Birchall for detecting a Japanese fleet headed for Ceylon. He was able to alert the base before being shot down
Valiant ASW: Once per game, before you roll this unit's ASW attack against an enemy Submarine, you may declare that you're using Valiant ASW. If you do, roll a die. On a roll of 1 or 2 destroy this aircraft. You roll two extra attack dice against that Submarine.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch be yours to hold it high. -In Flanders Fields. John McCrea
Rather than a ASW buff, what about denying an attack if you manage to damage the sub?
I appreciate the creativity, but I don't know if I like this. The torpedoes are already suppressed, aren't they? I think I would prefer to keep it simple and use an existing SA rather than create a new one. It appears that this SA may require use of a marker or remembering that the results from an attack in the air attack phase will be carried over into the sub attack phase. I prefer KISS and avoiding complex SA's, but I realize that is just me.
Year should be 1941 as The first PBY-5A Canso built by Boeing Canada flew in July 1941 and the first Canso from Canadian Vickers in December 1942.
Maybe like CAMS 141
CONVOY ASW COVER: This unit rolls one extra attack die when making ASW attacks against enemy Submarines that are in range 1 of friendly Auxiliary units
Plus
SEARCH AND RESCUE: Once per game in the Air Attack step, this unit can perfom a rescue mission instead of its normal attack if it is in a sector where a friendly Aircraft was destroyed on a previous turn. Score 2 Victory Points at the end of the turn.

With 5 MG's it should probably get Light Defensive Armament. Remember that SA did not exist at the time of Set I. The Soviet PBY/GST only had four MGs.
Notes: Canada received American made PBY's in 1941. The first Canadian built PBY came out of the Boeing Canada assembly line and flew in July 1941. The first operational use of Canso's was October 1942. Canso's served in 11 RCAF squadrons in WWII. Some of the squadrons were attached to the RAF.
According to PBY - The Catalina Flying Boat by Roscoe Creed, Canso's made eighty five submarine attacks resulting in seventeen kills. All the kills were in the Atlantic.

I like this idea. Possibly an inexpensive way to get extra VP.
"You like ships. You don't seem to be lookin' at the destinations. What you care about is the ships, and mine's the nicest." ~ Firefly ~
Trying to think of something relating to the early spotting of jap fleet. Maybe some variation of shadowing, early warning or something. Nearest? (within a certain range, 3?) 1 or maybe 2 friendly ships (same sector) may move (1 or 2) sectors away? from spotted ship(s). Giving a limited move after sea movement phase. Could be helpful if you initially moved first and have been closed with superior forces.
"That's right son, join the navy. Get behind a bloody big gun and knock the hell out of somebody"
"We went out, got our arses kicked, then came back again"
Canada was a major player;; in supplying; protecting supply lines and letting its allies know where's Wally "Wally being the infamous German Subs"
Love what the game did with its DD's and the Hudson. The RCN does have some pretty strong ASW attack rolls. So should the Canadian PBY be a Generic type or add a little more Zip to allied units ASW attacks???
Seems to fit the units History and would help crack that tough Germans Sub fleet. Or would that be toooo much??? I think some middle ground here would be nice; Vectoring Units kind of makes everything a SUB Hunter, and adding a ASW die bonus might be overkill.
SO how about a OPT-OPG ASW attack by a unit with in 2 sectors of this unit getting an attack re-roll; along with just Loiter could help keep the cost low.

But was that a canso specifically? Or just a catalina with canadian pilot?
The problem is we already have a low cost and very useful US Catalina with Shadowing. So the Canso needs to find a useful niche. I am not sure keeping it cheap is the answer because the US PBY is already such a good deal. Something to boost ASW seems right, but DDs are rarely used to actually attack subs in my experience. Just harass. I have very, very rarely seen Pinpointer used.
Did I miss something on a Canadian spotting the Japanese fleet somewhere?
