Next, here are some Finnish MS.406s from 1/LeLv 14. They were flown by Kullervo Virtanen (7), Aaro Nuorala (11), and two other pilots that are unknown to me (10 and 14).
For today, here are some B-17s from the 322 Bomb Squadron, 91st Bomb Group. These are the Testors models that some other folks on the forum have also made use of. Customizing these amounted to painting over the red on the horizontal stabilizers of the tail, then adding fuselage codes and nose art. They were flown by: David Hanst (LG-Y, "Hikin' For Home"), Robert Marlow (LG-B, "The Biggest Bird"), and Thomas Smith (LG-T, "Fifinella").
These next planes come from an ace-heavy guards squadron, the 9 GIAP. The paint schemes shown are for their La-7s. They were flown by: CO Vladimir Lavrinenkov (17), Pavel Golovachev (23), Amet-Khan Sultan (24), and N.G. Ostapchenko (72).
I agree, Bill does great work at ArmamentsInMiniature. Perhaps AltEndingGames on Etsy might have Gladiators? Thank you for your note on the 111s. As for glass, I did the overall green first, then went over the panes with gloss black. I ended up using a toothpick sharpened with a pocketknife, half a drop of paint at a time so it would not be either too thin or too runny.
Nice work on the He 111s. I'm a big fan of Armaments in Miniature, even if I can't convince him to make a Gloster Gladiator... How did you get such a nice finish on the glass on the He 111s? Well done.
Next up is a flight of Tempest Vs (I modified Typhoons to make these). These are from the 486 Sqn of the RNZAF, shown here led by the WingCo of the 150th Wing.
They were piloted by Roland Beamont, CO of 150th Wing (R-B), Jim McCaw (SA-Y), Harvey Sweetman (SA-A), and Jack Stafford (SA-L).
Today I got a chance to take pictures of my British, Russian, French, and Finnish planes. There are still more U.S., German, and Japanese, Italian, and Chinese planes to come, but now I'll be able to post a bit more national variety.
On that note, here are some Russian P-39s of the 30th GIAP. They were piloted by Mikhail Renz (CO, #84), an unknown pilot (blue #86), Alexander Filatov (#93), and Khasan Ibatulin (#95).
For today, here are some He 111s from KG53. Aircraft came from ArmamentsInMiniature. I don't have info on pilots/crew, but aircraft ID are A1+BT, A1+JT, and A1+HT. I set up a 109 for comparison.
For reference, here are the damage values (based on ballistics and explosive/incendiary filling used in belts of each type of round):
Attack sequence is as follows:
-Roll attack dice -Set aside successful dice -Apply damage amount for each successful die (x2 for 6s) -Apply critical hit effects (forthcoming separate reference - I have effects made, but not in upload-ready format yet)
