The JRS-79B1 was the final derivative of the Italian tri- motored SM-79. These medium bombers were license-built by Romania and powered by two Junkers Jumo 211F engines; the center engine being eliminated. Two squadrons of these aircraft were placed near the Black Sea coast to interdict convoys and to counter the threat of Soviet naval landings. The Romanians had some success with a new style of attack utilizing a forward firing 20mm cannon and low-level bombing attacks; however, these attacks came at the cost of a higher attrition rate.
