LIGHT SHIP TACTICS: Once per game, at the beginning of the Surface Attack phase, you can declare you're using Light Ship Tactics. If you do, whenever an enemy Ship makes an attack against this unit this turn, roll a die. On a 5 or higher, this unit takes no damage from that attack.
PROTECT CRIPPLE: This unit gets +1 on each attack die when making Gunnery, Antiair, or ASW attacks while in the same sector as a friendly Ship that is crippled.
Corrected the ASW score, let's get some flavour text on this
To you from failing hands we throw the torch be yours to hold it high. -In Flanders Fields. John McCrea
Alvise da Mosto had a long peacetime career but saw relatively little wartime service. In 1931, during sea trials she reached 42.7 knots, making her the fastest of the twelve Navigatori-class destroyers. She exercised with the Italian Fleet, made a good will visit to South America, and escorted convoys during the Spanish Civil War. When World War II began she laid mines in the Sicilian Channel. On 1 December 1941 she was sunk in battle with British cruisers and destroyers while attempting to protect a crippled tanker from air and surface attacks.

When World War II began, she laid mines in the Sicilian Channel and continued escorting convoys. On 1 December 1941 she was attempting to rescue survivors from a burning tanker when she was attacked by Force K consisting of the cruisers HMS Aurora and HMS Penelope, and the destroyer HMS Lively. She engaged the British ships but was hit in a magazine and quickly sank.

Its immemsely frustrating that having found a ship that fought gallantly (how un-italian apparently) it gets a opg defensive SA and a psuedo-convoy sa)
On 1 December 1941 she was attempting to rescue survivors from a burning tanker when she was attacked by Force K consisting of the cruisers HMS Aurora and HMS Penelope, and the destroyer HMS Lively. Despite the overwhelming odds she engaged the British ships ferociously. Hit in a magazine in the fight, Alvide da Mosto was lost with 138 hands. More than half. HMS Lively dipped her pennant to the vanquished enemy in respect for her gallantry.

Trying again. This time I had my son the editor try to help me out with the too-long sentences.
Alvise da Mosto began the war laying mines in the Sicilian Channel and escorting convoys. On 1 December 1941, she was attempting to rescue survivors from a burning tanker when she was attacked by the infamous Force K. The scrappy Italian destroyer ferociously engaged the two British cruisers, HMS Aurora and HMS Penelope, and the destroyer HMS Lively. Alvise da Mosto was soon hit in a magazine and was lost with 138 hands, more than half her crew. HMS Lively dipped her pennant in a show of respect as the gallant Alvise da Mosto sank.

I think this is the last configuration ticat1 sent to the playtesters. We haven't heard anything back yet. The Somers thread made me remember that Light Ship Tactics was really meant for small (vital 6) DDs. However, this class was on the lighter side of the vital 7 range so I am not going to get worked up over it if you guys are still okay with it. It does make a nice SA for this DD, although it would arguably benefit more from something that helped it with torpedoes. She did fire her torpedoes at the Brits although they didn't hit.
Anyway, I think this is what we have now pending ticat1's report back.

Playtesters did take a look at the unit, after some minor discussion and testing the unit out we didn't see a way to break the unit. There was some talk that it was a borderline 7 points, but it wasn't a long discussion and left it there.
No surprise there. The boundary to earn offensive abilities for some navies is impossibly high.
I have to agree. I was really hoping to finally get a good power DD for the Italians TBH. Camicia Nera is good, but a one-trick-pony and still pretty vulnerable. That class should have had Vital 7, not 6 so that really hurts too.
On the basis of "light ship tactics" technically not being applicable to a Vital 7 DD, can we reopen the discussion on SA's? Maybe being not quite so "historical" this time? I think it is appropriate to look at the Italian fleet DDs as a whole and propose something "competitive." The Navigatori's were one of their largest and most significant DDs.
We can't seem to help ourselves from making super USN DDs, but seem to have a strong aversion to creating a decent Italian DD. The Somers class was not a really noteworthy class in the USN, but we haven't had any lack of enthusiasm for it.
