Laid numerous minefields and escorted many convoys. Sunk in battle Dec. 1, 1941, while defending a merchant ship against British vessels.

From Wikipedia: On 30 November 1941, Da Mosto sailed from Trapani to escort to Tripoli the tanker Iridio Mantovani, carrying, 8,600 tons of fuel for the Axis forces in North Africa. On 1 December, Mantovani was crippled by Bristol Blenheim bombers of the Royal Air Force; Da Mosto tried to take her in tow, but another air strike set the tanker on fire. Shortly thereafter, the two ships were attacked by the British Force K, consisting of the cruisers Aurora and Penelope and the destroyer Lively. Da Mosto engaged the British ships in a last attempt to protect the disabled tanker, but was hit multiple times, including in one of her magazines, and quickly sank at 18:15 in 33°53' N, 12°28' E, about 75 miles northwest of Tripoli. Mantovani was also finished off by Force K. Da Mosto's commanding officer, Commander Francesco Dell'Anno, was awarded the Gold Medal of Military Valor for his attempt to defend Mantovani against overwhelming forces.

What about an ability that makes it so the opponent can't attack convoy vessels in this unit's sector till it's destroyed

Although Italian destroyers primarily did convoy escort duty, so too did Allied destroyers. But convoy related SAs are pretty weak in this game, and I think we have given the Italians more than enough of those. I agree with flak that SAs related to her battle with the British cruisers (like Cruiser Killer or such) would be much more useful.

Checking Hap's spreadsheet it appears Camicia Nera is the only Italian DD with Close Escort. Close Escort is by far the best of the "convoy escort" type SAs. How about Close Escort and Cruiser Killer? Light Ship Tactics would also apply IMO. All three would make a nice DD.

Cruiser Killer would bump guns up to 6/6/5.

Of course! But there are lots of 3-Armor UK cruisers that it would help against.
