LIGHT SHIP TACTICS: Once per game, at the beginning of the Surface Attack phase, you can declare you're using Light Ship Tactics. If you do, whenever an enemy Ship makes an attack against this unit this turn, roll a die. On a 5 or higher, this unit takes no damage from that attack.
PROTECT CRIPPLE: This unit gets +1 on each attack die when making Gunnery, Antiair, or ASW attacks while in the same sector as a friendly Ship that is crippled.

Italy could use a good destroyer. If we don't give it a good attack SA then there is probably no point in giving it Close Escort. CE is mainly useful if the DD has something going for it like a good AA or torpedo attack.
@ticat - Did you mean to change the ASW to 4 when you sent it to playtesting? I thought you stated that in the post just above.
Other than the ASW 4, I think the proposal is "okay", but not a barn burner by any means.

Lets face it the Forum has come up with the 4th Italian DD in a class that is probably the worst 8pt DD in the game. Hope the Team comes up with some good ideas here.
Weeds is right its to weak for bonuses against Cruises and a poor choice for convoy SA's.
Protect Cripple for sure; What else can you give it except some Inspirational SA;; "Remember" the Juneau
Oh my gosh! You are so right. Please, let's not "remember" anything and go back to that.

Since i wrote that; I believe with all the chit chat here, the forum has come up with a nice unit.

So Light Ship Tactics give these guys a lot of survivability. Use thus in smoke and it gets 2 tries to evade an enemy shot. Something Italy really needs to stay in the game longer. Do not change anything...😀 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Three questions/comments:
1) Shouldn't this ship be named "Alvise Da Mosto"? 2) While not against it... how does light Ship Tactics represent her career? 3) Is 7 the right points for this unit considering the Ugolino Vivaldi is the same class with only Ram as the SA and is 8 points? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vivaldi is overcosted, which us typical of Set 1 and 2 ships...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After some more playtesting, I think the unit is borderline 7/8 points. I'm leaning to the 7 points as Light Ship Tactics (LST) does not protect against air or submarines and is a OPG SA.
The extra save when combined with Eugenio's Establish Screen and a smoker can make for some attention by your opponent, but it's a 20 point combo to pull off.
I think it's good to go, I haven't been able to break the unit and won't raise a huge discussion point on whether it should be 7 or 8 (either is fine with me).

I think it is fine as is. LST also has the disadvantage that you have to declare it at the start of the Surface Attack Phase so your opponent can choose to simply not attack it and make you "burn" your OPG. Protect Cripple can be useful, but it isn't easy to trigger.

I think its fine as is as well. Light Ship Tactics is an interesting SA when paired with a smoking DD, but otherwise, I consider this ship fairly unremarkable. The survivability is nice, but this ship will be hard pressed to break into the Ascari-Espero-C Nere sectors I typically use.

And that kind of the problem. Outside of those three DDs it is hard to find anything really useful in the Italian DD lineup. I think we get too hung up on the history at times. Sometimes gameplay is more important.

The biggest thing holding back Italian and German DDs is the range 1 limited torpedoes. If we want to make one of those DDs truely useful they need an SA that gives them a range boost. Like Torpedo Run.

Its a wonder the italian cruisers were so fast and destroyers not so.
The alternative is something like
Drive Away: Once per game, when this unit hits an enemy ship with a gunnery attack, your opponent may move that unit one sector away from this unit. If it does, that enemy ship cannot move next turn.
