Been away awhile; love the grey you used on the Furutaka and like ships, What was it ,, and who's models???
Nice work!!1
Sorry i missed the paint detail post??
Thanks! All ships in this post are from Tiny Thingamajigs Shapeways store. The hull colors are either Vallejo 70867 (Dark Bluegray) or 70869 (Basalt Gray). It's a little hard to tell from the pics above - they were taken with a webcam. The other post with Furutaka and Takao are a bit closer to real.
Wow, that is fascinating. I had recently read the New Vanguard series on Japanese light and heavy cruisers and was similarly surprised about the ratio of losses due to surface vs air vs submarine attack. Roll those 6's! Thanks for sharing.
As far as maps, I've always been a fan of the (felt) HotzMaps (www.hotzmats.com), especially if you like to have bigger squares, a larger map, use hexes instead of squares, or some combination of the three. I have several for various games. Unfortunately, I just checked out the website and it looks like he's not accepting new orders for a while. Keep an eye out though. It's worth the wait IMO.
ps. Welcome to the forum!

Those are awesome, Hap! I have so many friends with time on their hands and I'm actually working more right now...so still no painting for me. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you!
Thanks! Yeah, I hear ya. My company never closed and I'm putting in tons of hours over the last 7 or 8 weeks. The difference is, all my kids' weekend stuff is cancelled, so now that they've settled into a routine, I find my self with a few occasional blocks of hours on Sat/Sun that I haven't had in years. For a few weeks I was wasting this time on housework, but now I'm painting!
Very nice! What paints and colors were used for the hulls and decks?
I used all Vallejo paints. For the hull and superstructure, 70867 (Dark Bluegray) drybrushed over a base of 70862 (Black Gray) For the steel decks 70869 (Basalt Gray) and 70862 (Black Gray) mixed 1:1 and painted over a base of 70862 (Black Gray). The Basalt/Black mix was applied after drybrushing the Dark Bluegray onto the hull and other areas. This gives a subtle weathering without using washes. For the linoleum "wood" decks, 70828 (Woodgrain Transparent) over a base of 70876 (Brown Sand) ...note that I do a sloppy job with the brown sand base, then do the drybrushing which makes it look even worse. But once the transparent woodgrain is applied over that (one coat, two tops), it gives it a nice texture - especially around structures on the deck. For the gun barrels and some of the other trim, 70991 (Dark Sea Gray) I used a bunch of other colors for trim, lifeboats, cranes and some of the smaller bits, but you get the idea. I think this gets a kind of snappy looking piece in a relatively short amount of time.
Hello all, in some free time over the past few days, I've finished a number of cruisers and destroyers for my Japanese fleet. The pics are taken with a webcam (I was strugging with lighting on my usual camera).
From left to right: Nagatsuki, Shimakaze, Natori, Myoko, Yubari, Inazuma and Harukaze
Top view of Myoko and Yubari
Top view of Inazuma and Harukaze (the pics make the center torpedo launchers of Inazuma look like gun turrets! ...will have to fix )
