I'm hopefully optimistic for the miniatures games, but I don't think I'll be holding my breath...
I've bought so many 3D-printed ships, I'm not sure how keen I am to buy more...AAM, on the other hand, I think I'd be down for...I'm not a fan of painting 15mm soldiers and I didn't start collecting until after everything was out of print...
I think this is my 20th finished, painted model since mid-August. This is Roe's revamped Lion in FUD from his Tiny Thingamajigs store on Shapeways. It's amazing how much extra detail he was able to add to it. I've painted his older one to represent my Temeraire. I'll show a side-by-side shot or two below.
Like most everything I've finished lately, this has been primed, washed and highlighted for a couple of years and has just been waiting for me to paint the deck and the camo.
I usually start with an Army Painter Uniform Grey as my basecoat for the IJN, UK, and French. For the rest, I start with a white primer (usually the USN) or a light grey primer KGM and others. For the Grey primers, it's a dark wash and then usually a medium grey drybrush like a Reaper Master Series Rainy Grey (I usually skip the medium grey drybrush if I start with light grey primer) and then a light grey drybrush like Reaper MS Misty Grey. If the USN, I usually use Misty Grey as my basecoat after the white primer and then do a medium dark wash and then a Misty Grey drybrush.
For the dark grey start, like the these IJN BBs, I go with a medium dark brown color for the deck (Vallejo Flat Earth), followed by a few coats of Vallejo Air Sand (Ivory) in this case or Reaper MS Stained Ivory for a slightly darker deck. For the white or light grey primer, I usually go straight to the deck color I want and then do a wash.
Since I work in batches and it can take me years to finish a model, I have to take notes. Only the carriers with decals get finished in days or weeks. Everything else is, literally, months or years.
I'm happy to write up something a little more detailed if you're that interested.
I thought I would post these all in the same thread. They're all FUD from Tinythingamajigs on Shapeways. They've all been "in-progress" for about 3 years and they all just got finished over the weekend.
I did Hyuga in WSF previously for the ForuMINI expansion card, but really wanted one in FUD. Here's the result:
Next up is the Nagato sister-ship, Mutsu. Another ForuMINI expansion card.
Finally in this batch, Ise! For a ship I've probably never used, I really enjoyed painting this one up!
Thanks for the comparison! I think the carriers (for the most part) are some of the best miniatures WOTC created, so not surprising your son chose that one. That color print looks pretty cool. Should probably check with squint on what will be next...I'd probably be willing to buy full-color destroyers!
So I actually price my bundles about double on CGTrader because I prefer people purchase from Wargaming3D. So base price on CGTrader for the complete collection is currently $584 and on Wargaming3D it's $307.
Seeing that it's on sale on CGTrader, I'll go put it on sale over at Wargaming3D. Thanks for the heads up.
As for a resin printer. Don't let your dreams be dreams. It's $285 on Amazon for an Elegoo Mars Pro 2 and a corresponding Elegoo Mercury wash/cure. (Note I have no affiliation with Elegoo, it's just the one that I use and I'm pleased with it.)
Can you post pictures of some of your prints from it? I'm tempted...
