Recently Shapeways added a second colored material. I have shared some prints of the High Definition Full Color. Here is the Full Color Nylon of the Tayio and USS Arkansas.
Like Before, the Pros and Cons
Pros
-Much less expensive then the Hight Def Color. High Def is $35.40, the new Color Nylon is $16.21. About half the cost. As reference, WSF is $9.50, High Detail Plastics $15.92 -Color boundaries are sharp, not a lot of color bleed. -Detail not too bad, a lot like WSF
Cons -The material is not smooth, again very similar to WSF. -Colors are not very vibrant. The flight deck of the Tayio looks faded. -The Arkansas arrive with a bit of warp. But a dip in hot water straightened it out.
All in all, not a bad option if you don't want to paint your models and don't mind spending an extra $7 or so for each one.
I will have the few models I have already uploaded with color able to be purchased in both color materials.
BTW, Shapeways have their Cyber Monday sale going on. Here are the promo codes.
Wow I was suspecting shapeways was testing the water with the original color prints. Glad to see a more affordable option now. And they look pretty good!
The color prints also provide an opportunity for new players to get into the game & acquire some of the more desireable & neat ships for a better price than the originals, just print a card & set sail. I'm doing it with land 3D prints & it is a great alternative to paying crazy $$$ for toy soldiers & boats & planes...
I just received a Taiyo and it looks just like the photo above. Pretty fuzzy, but very attractive. Certainly fine for gaming IMO. I wonder what would happen if I brushed on a layer of clear gloss and then a layer of matt? It might make the color even dimmer, or it might make it a little brighter by reducing the light diffraction. Or it might make no difference at all. I think I will give it a try the next time I start a new set of miniatures.

Let me know which of my ships you would like to see colored. Add pictures if you have an idea of what it should look like. Camo patterns are difficult, but I will try my best.
King George V class, HMS Unicorn. A bunch of stuff, I will work on a list for you. Tons of destroyer classes, if I could print 10-15 of a class and have them at a playable standard without painting... That would be game changing for me.
Just put in a small order of your current colored line up to see how they come out. Would love to see: HMS Unicorn, USS Des Moines, HMS Hardy, USS England, HMS Enterprise, USS Somers, USS New Mexico, Tosa, USS Midway, HMS Revenge, Shimane Maru, Idzumo, Kumano Maru, and Hosho.
Probably more than that, you have an extensive line up.
