ZH-1 was an incomplete Gerard Callenburgh class destroyer salvaged by the Kreigsnarine. She initally was scuttled by the dutch when the Germans invaded The Netherlands. Her hull and machinery were considered robust, but the boilers were problematic and eventually replaced. ZH-1 was sent to France to serve escort duties in the Bay of Biscay. On 9 June 1944 in the Battle of Ushant, ZH-1 launched a torpedo salvo and damaged HMS Tarter with gunfire. A torpedo from HMS Ashanti blew off ZH-1’s bow so the crew set off scuttling charges to prevent her capture.

Originally the Gerard Callenburgh a class of 4 Royal Netherlands destroyer's

 Captured during the invasion of the Netherlands and renamed ZH-1 Zerstorer, [destroyer] Holland

she was commissioned into the Kriegsmarine on October 11 1942.

 After a short and plagued stint in the Baltic’s by October 1943 she departed Kiel for the Bay of Biscay, France.

While there she escorted German Raider and Sub blockade runners.

 On June 9 1944 in the Battle of Ushant, ZH-1 launched a torpedo salvo and damaged HMS Tarter with gunfire.

A torpedo from HMS Ashanti blew off ZH-1’s bow so the crew set off scuttling charges to prevent her capture.

The only thing I can see is you have Callenburg on the class line.

The sentence with the Dutch the Germans the Netherlands has a lot of t-h-es in it but it’s kind of grown on me. It trips off the tongue. What do you guys think?
