First we lost the 1:1800 scale ship quick search category, now it looks like Shapeways has dropped the 1:900 scale aircraft quick search category as well. Without these two access options, it starts getting a bit tougher to find units scaled to War at Sea. Fortunately, there is a way around the redaction, just hit theā¦..wait, where is the general search box? Really, no search box? I'd always been able to find an individual model by searching on the name if it were not popping up elsewhere. But you have to have a search function to do that. What in the world is going on over there at Shapeways? It appears Shapeways has all but abandoned the War at Sea players. If you know the game designer stores (e.g. Snafu, Tinythingamijigs), if you can find them, individual designers still have scales available but that is a lot more awkward then doing a general search. It looks like you can still find individual units if you do a Google search (e.g. Shapeways, F6F) but that seems a bit awkward unless you buy just a few units. I can't imagine the current system will help designers or players in the War at Sea universe - more designers, like Snafu's recent 1:900 scale departure, may give up if no one can find their models and players will certainly be frustrated if they can't find anything. There are plenty of other scales to search on, why not ours?
I think everyone who has an active Shapeways purchase history or hopes to buy models on Shapeways in the future should contact them and write something like: "Recently, the 1:1800 ship and 1:900 scale aircraft quick search categories have been removed from Shapeways. Please bring these back these quick search categories. Also, please return the capability to do a general search for individual units." The contact form is at the bottom of the Shapeways shopping page and does not require that you log in to fill out the contact form. If enough of us send something in, they might take notice.
