Just laid the keels for a T2, Type 1TM class and HMAFA Kurumba tonight.
I will be moulding them for casting when complete.
Will post updates when I make some further progress.
Update 1 - Kurumba.
Just a little done this weekend.
Set the bow and stern rake and have the foc'sle marked out.
Not too much to add this week as I focused on another project (on another thread)
Just a little done on Kurumba in the last week or so.
Barely worth putting a photo up but I got a bit more done on the bridgework and the railing curves on the weekend
Today's update has a little done on the IJN 1TM. I made a mess of the deck outlines at water level and had to add an extra 1mm at the bottom so a bit of filler was in order.
The Kurumba is starting to take shape and show it's 1916 era design.
Discovered a huge error in the initial layout of the T2 so that will be re-laid next week.
Just a little done to the 1TM this week.
The T2 tanker has it's keel re-laid.
Not too much more to do on the 1TM and then I can get stuck into the T2. Here's progress:
The deck guns are made from a pin (as in dressmakers pin). Cut to length and the muzzle end filed flat. Then three sides of the head filed off, with the remaining bulge facing uppermost when glued to the platform.
Just a last bit of sanding and the 1TM is complete.
I have used Grove's method of styrene rod for the masts (thanks mate, it works a treat). I think I'll be using styrene masts for the castings as well.
Was going to put light AA mounts on but decided to leave them off and save the hour or so for other projects. Could add them; anyone think it's worth the trouble?
Now onto the T2
The T2 got a bit of attention this week as well.
Another quick update; stern deckhouse detail.
Funnel is from an empty pen (biro) insert with the ink removed.
The stern deck gun is the usual pin filed to shape.
Thought I'd better show the front end as well!
Almost finished the T2 now, just the masts and a few small details and it's done.
Carving two smaller lifeboats
Experimenting with guntub materials. Overall shot next to JOB
The construction of the T2 is now finished; the Tale of 3 Tankers is drawing to a close.
I must thank everyone out there for all your enthusiastic encouragement and positive comments, modelling 101 really is a very inspiring community.
They are nearly ready to mould and cast. I hope to have a vacuum pump in a couple of weeks and get a chamber built to produce some good casts.
