I have finally found some information and rough plans to start on a small, a medium and a large German merchant. Here is the start.
Small - Kriegs Transport. Named KT 1 to 54 produced from 1941-44. Most were lost during the war and many were used in the Mediterranean. The Italians were very interested in them however only 2 were commissioned into RM service in spring 1943; Monte Cucco (ex KT 32) and Monte Grappa (ex KT 10).
Approx 68m long and 700t
Medium - Hansa Type A. Standard ship built in many yards from 1943-45. About 65 built from what I have been able to find out.
91m long and 3100t
Large - MS Drachenfels. 12 built 1921-22
Other names in the class: Drachenfels, Birkenfels, Trifels, Liebenfels, Werdenfels, Wartenfels, Trautenfels, Falkenfels, Gutenfels, Lauterfels, Sturmfels, Wildenfels
137m and 9300t
I think my 'shipyard' is now full!
A little progress this weekend
KT got a bit of time today
Very slow progress in the last 2 weeks
KT 1:
Drachenfels got a bit of work too
Funnel installed, mast secured, guns installed, KT complete.
With Z20 Karl Galster for scale
Ok, so I went back to check and I wasn't quite finished after all (2mm over-length and no lifeboats)
So I've corrected all that and now it's finished short of a coat of primer and final check.
Small progress. Not much modelling going on at the moment.
Funnel base and 16 derrick winches installed.
And the stern shaped (which isn't quite finished by the way....)
As with the C1-M, the Drachenfels only needs a coat of primer to check for any detail flaws and it's complete. Once the Hansa A is done this KM trio will be complete. (A year in the making so far!)
KT and Drachenfels primed
Thanks for looking
Work has re-commenced on the Hansa Type A.
Must have been a shipyard workers strike.
A bit of movement on this 3rd KM merchant
A little more done.
I think I am just about done with the Hansa Type A as well. Will prime and finish the final checks at the end of the year with RFA Bishopdale. And maybe whatever else I can finish.
