Nicely done Striker, nice to be able to still inject some inspiration and get those creative juices flowing.
These islands look fabulous, I may even be able to lend some assistance and advice on how to build these islands from scratch using entirely homemade materials which in my opinion is every bit as good a quality if not better than anything you can buy on the market, having used both I think its hard to tell between the homemade materials and the manufactured stuff. I would be happy to share some of the things I have found to work over the many years of exploration trial and error making terrain and in particular 3D Islands for War at Sea if you guys are interested.
For Instance:
Bases - What material is best, and how to stop it from warping during the build. Because we want a base that is thin enough to pass for an Island but yet strong enough not to warp.
Modelling Rock & Mountains - How to model realistic looking rock and stone effects using household grade polystyrene and a mixture called "Grey Goop".
Modelling Grass & Trees - How to make your very own flocks and clump foliage using, sawdust and foam, cheap easy and fun to make!
I'm certainly no expert guys, but it seriously took me forever to find a suitable solution for particularly the basing, nothing ever seemed to work, I simply couldn't find a material that was thin enough but didn't warp during the building process, these other materials were always so expensive to buy so I needed to find another solution for that too. The guys that know me best know that I like to make and paint in the most cost effective ways possible as not all of us are loaded with cash.
These islands are terrific, better than a flat piece of card with no features....its about bringing our tabletop to life!
Great work guys

Mate I wouldn't want to hi-jack this thread and take anything away from our members commenting on these lovely island models by Striker and Sirmagnus so I think it would be best if I were to start up a new thread on "Island Building", I am going to cut out some Island shapes tomorrow morning in my workshop expressly to write a small guide to assist our members here at Forumini. Ill get some pictures together and start writing something tomorrow.
Once again guys, I'm no particular expert on Island Building but I like building terrain and would certainly like to share with you guys everything Ive learned. These Islands are fairly cheap to build once you have gathered a few fairly cheap items for the project, the rest is a few neat tricks I have learned that will also save you guys a lot of money in terms of materials. The islands I build are made in such a way that you will never need to make another set if you take care of the models that you build. If you guys were to go through a lot of old pictures I have of models shot with my Islands used as a backdrop you will see some very early Island Models that were all together pretty "ordinary" island models, mostly because the bases were never thin enough yet strong enough not to break or warp. I have since found better ways and cheaper ways of doing things and would love to share those things with our members.
Ill get on with it tomorrow guys.
