This is my first thread on Forumini, so if I did something wrong/ put this in the wrong section or something, I apologize in advance.
I am currently working on and playtesting my fleets for the W@S events for Origins, and I have a couple questions regarding the events.
The events at Origins as shown on the calendar on TheSmoreySwamp should be Channel Battle, Sparviento/Mediterranean, Forumini Open, Battle in the Slot, Sealed League, and the Battlefest.
1. First off, the events say "not yet updated", so I was wondering if there will be any changes to the rules or the events themselves? I have already made some of my fleets for these and it isn't a problem to change them in the event of a rule change. I decided to do so because these specific events like Battle in the Slot and Channel Battle shouldn't change much since they are historical scenarios, so the year limit and such wouldn't change, I assume?
2. Then, on TheSmoreySwamp and on the Calendar found on the site, it lists Battle of Cape Sparviento as an event, but if you click on the link to view the rules, it shows the Battle for the Mediterranean event. I was wondering which event will be run, and if I need to create fleets for Mediterranean or not. This may be cleared up when the events get updated, since they do say (NYU).
3. For the Sealed League at Origins, will it run in the traditional way as in splitting half a starter, getting new ships after a match, etc? I thought I heard somewhere that it was being run differently this time, where you had to bring your own fleet? That might be the case for the GenCon sealed league, or maybe I just got that wrong?
4. I also have some questions about the "Battle in the Slot" event. I ran into two problems for the event when I playtested it with a friend. I built fleets for both sides, with the Japanese focusing on LLTs, and the US focusing on radar so that they had no negatives in the night battle. I do not have a copy of the original set 1 starter, which comes with the 'Slot' map in which the event says to use, so I used the secondary option of marking the designated sectors as coastal on an open sea map. But I noticed that the coastal sectors contain some of the deployment sectors, and when I went to deploy my USN fleet, I did not have enough sectors that were open to deploy all of my fleet because of the coastal sectors. Is this something I need to build my fleet around, and change the number of ships I bring in this scenario due to the coastal sectors in the deployment area? Or, is the 'Slot' map from the deck 1 starter different, and isn't a problem then? Also, when I did playtest this scenario with my lineups of both sides, the USN didn't seem to stand a chance against the Japanese LLT swarm, because of no extended range 4 for ships like the Cleveland at night, and the range 3 torps from ships like Haguro and combined with scout planes from the Chikuma and all the other bonuses were enough to pretty much destroy the entire USN fleet in the first turn of combat, both times I ran this. Just wondering if the Japanese are this strong in this event, or perhaps I missed some benefit that the US gets other than radar?
5. And the final question I have for these events is about the Forumini Open, this will be the first time I will run this. The rules say that there are no year restrictions, and no nation limitations, so it's pretty much all of the cards in the game can be used, except for the 4th forumini expansion. The rules say there are no nation limitations, and I was wondering if this applies to carriers and planes as well? As in, if I wanted to use a Saratoga with Seafire Mk.IIIs based on it, is that possible? I would think that because of no nation limitations that it would be possible, but I just wanted to clarify that before the actual event, and make sure I don't miss some rule that I misunderstood or something.
I know it's a kinda a barrage of questions, these were just some things that I wanted clarification on before the convention so that I could adjust my fleets accordingly. I will be at Origins with fleets for all of these events, so for those who are also going, I will see you there!
