I was going to suggest we just put "Commander" for the Type. Unless you are planning sub-types it isn't necessary to have one here. "Submarines" don't have a sub-type.
Well, are we planning on going lower to like Captains, LT, and lower. Heck, we can even do AA gunners, engine personnel and individual pilots!!!
I wonder how long it would take to do a card for everyone on a ship, like Enterprise during the Battle of Midway for example. Let's do it!!! 😁
Okay guys, the time I have been dreading has finally arrived and this coming up with a design for the Commander cards because we do not have a WotC example to go by. My time and skills are limited so I am trying to stay as close to the existing cards as I can. But we obviously have some key differences. I have linked a prototype of a Commander Card below using Raymond Spruance as the prototype.
The back of the card was not too hard to adjust. The "Biography" goes where the fluff text went. But I increased the area devoted to the Biography by about two lines because I don't think we need as much space in the "Stats" section.
Questions I have:
1. What "Stats" should we have for each Commander? I used the basic information Flak had, but I added place of education and highest rank achieved. Any suggestions? 2. I don't like the header "Statistics" for this. (I should have used "Specifications" for that header back when I designed the cards, but too late for that now.) But "Statistics" (or specifications) seems too cold for describing their bio. Resume? Obituary? something?
It doesn't add anything. They're all associated with multiple ships so its hard to pick one but it could be confusing for players using this new unit type. I'd be ok leaving it blank or putting an insignia for their highest rank attained if that isn't too much additional work.
I like the ship. It is just background imagery. It will be pretty plain without it. And I really don't have any ideas or the time to make customized replacements.

In the case of the Soviet admiral I went back to his command of torpedo boats before the war. He apparently worked out of an office on land for the duration of the war. It is just a "pretty" IMO. I don't think there is a need to get too technical with this. I am using silhouettes I already have when possible.

What space are you referring to? The area at the top where the silhouettes are? That is a very limited space up there. Wide but very narrow in height.
Honestly, I really don't want to get into making custom graphics for these. The few that I have done for installations (and a few ships where I could not find illustrations) take a lot of time to make.

I have seen other cards with that space left blank and I agree it doesn't quite look right. Either using the ship most associated with the commander would seem right or if wanting uniformality what about the silhouetted word COMMANDER(S). Would also make them stand out/quicker easier to find in hand/deck.
"That's right son, join the navy. Get behind a bloody big gun and knock the hell out of somebody"
"We went out, got our arses kicked, then came back again"
I am really leaning toward the silhouette of an Admirals barge. They were generally beautifully lacquered wood and brass and almost the equivalent of a luxury yacht. They are not much smaller than a PT boat and I think would be representative and consistent with the rest of the deck. I wish I had thought of it earlier.
