Okay guys, the time I have been dreading has finally arrived and this coming up with a design for the Commander cards because we do not have a WotC example to go by. My time and skills are limited so I am trying to stay as close to the existing cards as I can. But we obviously have some key differences. I have linked a prototype of a Commander Card below using Raymond Spruance as the prototype.
The back of the card was not too hard to adjust. The "Biography" goes where the fluff text went. But I increased the area devoted to the Biography by about two lines because I don't think we need as much space in the "Stats" section.
Questions I have:
1. What "Stats" should we have for each Commander? I used the basic information Flak had, but I added place of education and highest rank achieved. Any suggestions?
2. I don't like the header "Statistics" for this. (I should have used "Specifications" for that header back when I designed the cards, but too late for that now.) But "Statistics" (or specifications)
seems too cold for describing their bio. Resume? Obituary? something?
On the front:
Again, I don't have the time or skills to make drastic changes. For the ship silhouette I used USS Northampton as that was one of his flagships and it was mentioned in the biography. I will try to do that for all the commanders. Hopefully we can find out what flagships (or flotilla leaders, etc.) they were on.
The "Abilities" section is easy and I did go with a larger space for it.
Portrait photos is obvious.
SOOOO.
The big hole in the card is the space where the attack table went. I can't think of anything game related to put there. After noodling around I finally decided the thing to do was put a graphic in there. But what?
So here is my proposal. My son is a professional artist (4 year degree in Fine Arts) and a former player of the game. I showed him the card layout and asked him if he could create a custom graphic to use on all the commander cards for that space. My thought was a picture of an officer looking through binoculars from the bridge. This is going to cost me a little money so I would like buy in now before the meter starts running. Is this okay with you guys? If there is something else you would like it needs to be decided quickly and it also needs to be simple. I really don't want to spend a lot of time on this. I need to get these cards done and sent to the printer by the end of this month because I am really backlogging up on other stuff.
