I really don't want to go with a native ASW 4. I think it was wrong on the Avenger and is too high as a base stat for an aircraft. Aircraft can fly straight to a sub each turn and really take them out if the ASW gets to be 4 and above. I would prefer the player at least have to work for it a bit to get that high.

I think the work is in the placement. Its one of the very rare dedicated asw platforms that exist, as opposed to a modification of an existing airframe.
Excellent Endurance - Once per game, at the beginning of the Air Mission phase, you may remove a Rearming counter from this unit.
Avoid DetectionEvade Contact - Whenever an enemy unit rolls successes against this Aircraft exactly equal to its armor value and would abort it, roll a die. On a 4 or higher, that attack misses instead.
I don’t understand the Bomb thing. You said it’s a Dive Bomber but then the rest of the conversation it’s classed as a Patrol Bomber.
It's a two-engine Patrol Bomber that had partial dive bomber ability. It had extended flaps that would allow it to make a quick 75 degree dive on a sub (mainly, but a ship as well.) So it is "in-between." That is why I gave it an 8 instead of a 9. I could live with a 7, but not a 6. As others have said, this is the best thing the IJN was able to come up with for ASW and it is late war so it is getting a little game lipstick. It has to survive among the Hellcats, USN "super-Corsairs", and SeaFires. In the "real world" it did so by avoiding US aircraft as much as possible.

I wonder if the word detection could be improved on in the SA? It has to have been already detected to have then been attacked.
Avoid attack? or something similar.
Avoid Attack - Whenever an enemy unit rolls successes against this Aircraft exactly equal to its armor value and would abort it, roll a die. On a 4 or higher, that attack misses instead.
Or even a slight alteration of the ability with the same current name.

I would rather not change the SA. There are currently not any SAs that specifically have you roll out of an attack before the attack is made. I know some people play that way with some of them, but it is not technically correct.
How about "Evade Contact" with the original SA?

It’s certainly not evade attack. The idea is not to be spotted because if you are, you can’t get away unless you found a lucky cloud bank or the enemy decided not to pursue.
Yeah, evade contact or intercept would seem to make more sense.
Its having a bit of a skirmish and potentially getting away if successful.
But its obviously been detected/found as the SA is written.
A lot of the SAs are not perfectly in sync with the history of the respective unit. We try to avoid unnecessary SA proliferation, and to write the mechanics in a way that is consistent with the game when we do. I think this will be close enough.
So Evade Contact it is.
