ASW for the IJN late war. Badly needed but vulnerable. Note that it had dive brakes for a "steepish" 75 degree attack.
The Q1W Tokai (Allied code name Lorna) was the first patrol aircraft designed from the beginning to be specialized for anti-submarine operations. The IJN issued specification 17-Shi calling for a 3-seat aircraft with long endurance and comparatively low speed. It was also to be able to launch attacks from a fairly steep dive. The first prototype was completed in September 1943 and easily met all requirements. 153 Q1W Tokais were built between September 1943 and August 1945. Crew training on the first three production aircraft began in August 1944. They began combat operations in December of 1944.
The cockpit structure and fuselage design was based on the twin-engine Ju 88A-4 bomber. One of these aircraft had been purchased by the Kyushu Hikoki company. Individual aircraft were equipped with either airborne radar or the KMX magnetic anomaly detector system. The aircraft operated together (ideally in three's) to detect and attack submarines.The Tokai (East Sea) units claimed to have sunk seven enemy submarines through May 1945, but none have been confirmed. Tokai units were constantly patrolling sea routes along the Chinese and Korean coasts up to Japan until the end of the war. Units were based on key island bases and in Japan. However, there were not enough built to make a significant difference in the outcome of the war because of late introduction and severe materials shortages.

SUPPRESS SUB - Once per game, at the end of the second player's Air Attack step, you may place this unit in an adjacent sector that contains an enemy Submarine and make an immediate ASW attack, hitting on a 5 or higher only.
CONVOY ASW COVER - This unit rolls one extra die when making ASW attacks against enemy Submarines that are in range 1 of friendly Auxiliary units.
ASW PINPOINTER - Ships roll one extra attack die when making ASW attacks against any Submarine this unit attacks this turn.
(I think I prefer ASW Swarm. Most useful and matches the tactics)
