Monge was a French submarine in the ocean-going Redoubtable (or 1500 ton) class.
Summarized from Wikipedia
Vichy French authorities decided to reinforce naval forces in French Indochina by sending four submarines accompanied by the tanker Lot. After a long and eventful voyage the "Lot" group (including Monge) finally reached Madagascar. They dodged the British, survived a typhoon, and conducted patrols around Dakar. After repairs in Diego-Suarez, Monge, Pégase and the tanker Lot finally arrived in Indochina. The two submarines cruised along the coast of French Indochina making "show the flag" stops at ports of call. Monge was then sent back to Diego-Suarez and conducted transport and escort missions in the region dodging British patrols.
Continuing from Wikipedia:
"On 1 May 1942, Monge began another voyage to Réunion, escorting the cargo ship Condé.[2][12] While she was at Saint-Denis on Réunion, the Battle of Madagascar began with British amphibious landings near Diego-Suarez early on 5 May 1942.[2] At 03:15 on 5 May, Monge received orders to take up position in a patrol area just north of Diego-Suarez and east of Cap d'Ambre — the northern tip of Madagascar — and to attack any British ships she encountered during her voyage from Réunion.[2] Monge got underway from Saint-Denis immediately, proceeded to her assigned patrol area, and began a submerged patrol.[2]
Loss
At 07:55 on 8 May 1942, Monge fired a torpedo at the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Indomitable.[2] The destroyers HMS Active and HMS Panther sighted Monge and counterattacked immediately.[2] Active dropped ten depth charges at 08:06 and ten more at 08:18.[2] Panther then also attacked with depth charges.[2] The attacks sank Monge in the Indian Ocean off Diego-Suarez with the loss of her entire crew of 69.[2][3][13]"

Submerged Shot - This unit can make Torpedo attacks against local enemy Submarines.
Suggested SAs
CARRIER HUNTER: This unit rolls one extra attack die when making Torpedo attacks against Carriers.
AUDACIOUS ATTACK - Once per game, this unit can make two Torpedo attacks during your Torpedo attack step. The targets must be in different sectors
EVASIVE ACTION: Whenever an enemy unit rolls successes against this unit exactly equal to its armor value, roll a die. On a 4 or higher, that attack has no effect.
CRASH DIVE - Whenever this unit would be destroyed by an ASW attack from an enemy Ship, roll a die. On a 5 or 6, this unit takes no damage instead
RISKY ATTACK: Once per game, you can declare you're using Risky Attack during the Submarine Attack phase. If you do, this unit rolls one extra attack die when making Torpedo attacks this turn, and until the end of the next turn, this unit gets -1 armor.
SLIP AWAY - Once per game, when an enemy ASW attack scores exactly 3 successes against this unit, you may roll a die. On a 4 or higher, the attack has no effect
France really needs a really good submarine in the game. So far the French subs keep missing the ring. This sub really survived a lot during its voyages if you read the entire article. The captain even had a near nervous breakdown.
Personally I would pick Risky Attack (just for trying to nail a British carrier) and Slip Away.
Although "Carrier Hunter" seems obvious, it is also a very poor SA on a submarine in my experience. Most people keep their carriers back for at least a few turns and it is hard to get subs in range of a carrier in my experience.
