I'll be at Gen Con August 3-6 for the Axis & Allies War at Sea tournament among other games. Will anyone else be in Indianapolis? Would like to put a face to name if anyone will be there.
I went for many years as well. But it just got too overcrowded and hard to get a hotel. Plus I started working in a vineyard seven years ago and it overlaps with harvest. But it is super fun to meet people we interact with online!

Well, I can say it was a unique experience. The reported attendance was over 70,000 this year. I've never seen that many gamers in one place at one time. The vender's area was immense. It took hours too look through all of it. There was also a consignment area where you could find used and new games for sale. The guys I went with were able to find war at sea boosters for way less than Ebay prices at previous GenCons. No luck at this one.
The Axis and Allies War at sea tournament was probably the last one. The organizer is more interested in the board game versions since War at Sea is a dead game. Still there may be some stand-alone battles. If not there still will be folks there willing to do pick-up games.
The convention center is very cool. It's connected via above ground walkways to the adjacent buildings. It is also used the playing field for Lucas Oil Stadium. They filled the field with various games. I played Wings of Glory there. For $10 i was able to play the game. Keep the $15 plane I used and got discount coupons for the Ares vender site.
The downside is our hotel was a dump. Make sure you make reservations well in advance as they fill up fast. The press of 70,000 bodies also takes a bit of getting used to.

Me as well. I started attending in 2001 and went every year until 2015 or 2016 (I'd have to check my free dice pile - shout out Crystal Castle dice)
This is truth. So much truth. It also started to become like comic con less about games/comics and more about just going and being seen. Which is lame, however that 'take' for me probably doesn't surprise anyone.
