Guided by Codebreaking efforts, the ANZAC Squadron (HMA Australia, Vampire, Arunta, Nizam, USS Chicago, FN Pluton and HMS Edinburgh) were sent into the Coral Sea to prevent a Japanese landing the islands south of Rabaul.
Intel correctly deduced a force of destroyers and Auxilaries was deployed for these landing however missed that it included a large seaplane carrier. The chitose sent succesive waves of aircraft at the HMAS Australia. Sinking her escort, HMAS Vampire and heavily damaging the cruiser herself. Despite this, the Cruisers outmatched the defendimg destroyers. However to the consternation of the theatre commanders. Cautious tactics allowed the large Auxiliaries to escape. Though the were appropriate given the limited local resources.
This situation will be bolstered by newly arriving forces from the central pacific in coming days.

Notes on campaign:
I'm at present playingba solo theatre level game. Where the enemy(japan) may randomly engage my forces on the theatre map. While they're acting randomly, they have a big resources advantage and a head start to a victory objective of 1000Vps.
