To give me something to do and get myself back into the game I am going to *insert number* of unique submarine cards to expand that aspect of the game especially U-Boats. If there is anything you want to see just post. Last night I messed around with U-853 that was sunk off the coast of Rhode Island (home state I was born) and U-166 which was the only u-boat sunk in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Cheers
Both boats are IX-C class so I just used the stock stats. It just comes down to SAs and cost.
SUBMERGED SHOT: This unit can make Torpedo attacks against local enemy Submarines.
RUN SILENT: If this unit doesn't move during your Sea Movement step, ASW attacks against it get -1 on each attack die this turn.
AUXILIARY HUNTER: This unit rolls one extra attack die when making Torpedo attacks against Auxiliaries. (I am not sure if she deserves this one, if I remove it the cost would drop to 12.)
Cool project. You asked...here you go. These are three off the North Carolina coast and would be great to see stat cards for them. Growing up in the coastal area of NC, it was fun to sit on the docks crabbing and listen to old-timers talk about seeing U-Boats in the water off the beaches. Not sure if it was true, but the stories wowed the hell out of 9 year old kid.
Even cooler was playing in the pillboxes along the coast near Camp Lejeune and hanging out with marines when they came to the beach. They were great sports. I'm sure we annoyed them to death, but they all were pretty chill about it.
Well, Kill,s U-382 has an interesting history for being the first u-boat sunk by the Coast Guard. Also, captain was a idiot.
I was thinking about making a new SA where once a game the first shot of the game the unit has to make two torpedo hits to equal one. If the unit misses it Armor rating gets a -1 the next round.
I am thinking I will remove Wolfpack, keep Incompetent Captain as is and drop the cost down to 10. Historically she was in 'one' wolfpack and did jack. One of his crew in the article I posted above he was more obsessed with getting and Iron Cross that he made mistakes in combat. This would then make a cheap sub if it can survive its first salvo of torpedoes. I need to know if the negative SA needs to be tweaked - Weeds, Brigs, Flak, or Rav?
I always somehow find good information. Once I searched for a book on the Mexican navy all in Spanish for the custom cards from the University of Texas archive.
At some point I will be writing three game scenario based on U-234 and other surviving units after the war end. It will be called the Cabal of New Berchetesgaden. Do not expect much historic accuracy...
**On a side note: Commadore John Paul Jones stayed in Portsmouth while his flag ship, The America, was being constructed. At the last minute with the loss of a French ship of the line in attempting to dock in Boston, they gave the new ship to the French in exchange. JPJ was furious, but little did he know that most of the wood used had been sitting in the water to long and soon after America's launch and use she started to rot and was only used by the French for a handful of years.
I highly, highly suggest this book by Tim McGrath - Give me a Fast Ship: The Continental Navy and America's Revolution at Sea/
