Isn't this too deep for salvage or can it be declared a War Grave & protected that way? They certainly must be protected from the sleaze that would salvage this.

This is the deepest shipwreck ever discovered and its only 1000 tons of ferrous metal. We need to worry about diver accessible wrecks like Houston, not the eternally dark ones like Indianapolis and Sammy B. The only people who have ever disturbed the deep-sea wrecks are billionaire explorers.

The bigger problem is that our generation and the next generation won't produce a Dr. Ballard type researcher who documents shipwrecks because the billionaires will find all the famous ones. True scientists and researchers won't be able to get funding to create scholarly works about already discovered or less historically significant wrecks, deep-sea exploration like this will peter out in the coming years, and we won't learn much about the ships that have already been found to put a feather in some business moguls cap.
