I recently just painted up some of A&A 1941 and HBG pieces and mounted them on XP Forge aircraft stands (and in the course of a week went from about c. 20 squadrons to 80 potential squadron, which has already borne rich fruit :-) I used a generic superglue, which while passable, has resulted in two squadrons out of action in the course of a few games.
What more robust glues should I be using?

Nice! I've done the exact same thing myself, though a great majority of units still need painting.
Personally I've had mixed results. Krazy Glue worked well on about half of them, but I noticed in storage of a unit bapped the side of the container too hard then it will pop right off the stand. I've debated modeling cement but I'm not sure how well it would hold over time.
I'm more following this for my own sanity as well. Though I did pick up some other glue this past week I just haven't had a chance to try mounting it yet.
Model cement is designed to bond 2 pieces of plastic together. It actually melts the plastic for a permanent bond, so if you have 2 pieces of plastic it will work well, provided: 1) both pieces are clean and paint-free on the bonding surfaces, and 2) both aren’t perfectly smooth.
To fix both of those issues you can do some light sanding.
I use JB Weld Minuteweld. Its epoxy so it's got tons of strength. Its viscous and sticky so it holds the pieces together relatively quickly without having to brace them long. I've only had one air unit come apart before and that was a paint failure not the epoxy.
I use Gorilla Super Glue Gel. Historically it has done the trick with my PLA plastic. For resin to PLA, which is what I've switched to, I haven't noticed any issues but they haven't been dropped or knocked much.
I use "medium gap filling" super glue. But that is because I am gluing Reacher's acrylic bases to Shapeway's porous nylon plastic. Reacher's bases are wider so they have a greater bond area. I also lightly sand the acrylic at the glue joint to get a better grip.

I have used in the past a Superglue that that a neoprem component to the formula which allowed a certain amount of flex without breaking. I have dropped (by accident) metal figures and nothing broke off. Not sure if the company makes it anymore.
