1. Anti-Air/Tertiery Guns : Above stats assume a 8 or 12 gun (105mm) AA refit. 105mm C Sk/33 is the standard medium AA gun for major KM ships. This is sufficent for a modest tertiery gunline.
2. Torpedo Protection: as built, Baden was equipped with a 50mm torpedo protection belt (comparable with algerie 40mm, moltke 45mm) While torpedo defence is a possible upgrade to consider, it would also therefore need to by offset by greater output from the powerplant and the expense those modifications would entail.
Maybe this could be just kept to a basic low cost minimum, like a German version of the Royal Oak. Failing that maybe something around a depot/training ship or coastal/fighting platform/bombard ability. Obviously hypo but looking at how the older WW1 vintage BBs were used by the Germans and the fleet in being concept in general, I don't see this charging off over the horizon inspiring the fleet to victory - even with a full speed roll!
"That's right son, join the navy. Get behind a bloody big gun and knock the hell out of somebody"
"We went out, got our arses kicked, then came back again"
Given gunnery and armour advantages over the sisters and a cheaper price than the bismark. The unit is distinctive enough not to need a defining flavour SA.
Which isnt to say a little flavour mightn't be interesting. Only that is not neccessary to distingush it. In my opinion anyway
Reminds me of a QE class without the flag rating. Prefer the secondaries and tertiaries over bristling with guns. Slower than the Valiant and lower AA rating. Point wise I see it at around 44/45 points.
I don't see her as a surface raider no, lol. Probably convoy duty and coastal bombardment in the Baltic.
I agree, but that she'd probably face the Soviet Navy in the Baltic once Barbarossa kicked off. That being said, I can easily see a refit Baden taking the entire Soviet Baltic fleet single-handed and winning (Or 1v1ing Sovetsky Soyuz and winning, which would have been both realistic and hilarious in an alternate history where that happens).
Not really useful for SA's, considering this is all hypothetical, but pretty fun to think about.
Just comparing the above stats with an online Royal Oak card, I would say its about a five point gap. Although not compared it to any other cards on either side, so could be out with them.

Can we have a move, second to complete this units development please
