In an attempt to make the formations more usable, I did a re-cost on them. All I did was take the original cost of the formation units and calculated the percent of savings gained by using the formation, then applied that same percent to the updated cost of units. This is what I came up with.....

Discussing Rules with bartok is a futile gesture, he either ignores them, Adjacent is one in particular he has problems with, or just makes up new ones to fit the situation.
You can perfectly play with Formations without recosting, are 61 cheaper compared with recosted units and only 3 (US SHERMAN, ITALIAN LIGHT, GERMAN PANZER II) are higher. Light tanks for Early War 1940. Original cost 9 each one.
Sherman Easy Eight was reduced 20 pts. 54 to 34. Sherman keeps same cost 21.
Its difficult to make a comparative: French Light tank vs Axis. R35 are 4/4 cost 9 and keeps the cost U.S. Recon Element is other level (Chaffee 1945)
I always played with Recosted Units, Formations and Expanded Rules. Adding more variety & complexity specially using Enfilade and overwatch.
-Play with Original cost units and Formations. -Play with Recosted Units and Formations. My option. I started in 39-45 with new scale, expanded rules. -Play with recosted units and Houserules Recosting Formations.
I agree, you can absolutely play these as originally shown. All I wanted to do is make the cost of the formation more relative to the updated cost of units. I find these updated costs more appealing, maybe others will also.
