The Churchill Ark (Armored Ramp Carrier) Mk II - Used extensively during the 1944-45 Italian Campaign by the British Army to bridge numerous streams and obstacles encountered as they advanced. An earlier Mk I version had been produced in Italy, but these were all eventually upgraded to Mk IIs.
* The Churchill IV is costed at 28 points. This version has the same defense values and the Superior Armor 2 special ability. But it doesn't have any combat values, so I costed it at 22. Is this just right? Too high? Too low? * The Bridge Layer special ability is obviously a custom SA. One question I have, how should this unit be placed with a hex to bridge a stream since that is considered to be hex side terrain. I'm guessing a player would simply keep this unit in an adjacent hex and deploy one set of ramps over the stream they wish to bridge. I added shell hole terrain because in some situations a vehicle with thin wheels SA could then pass over that shell hole terrain at normal speed using a deployed ARK.
Perhaps straddle the stream to show it deployed & to not possibly overstack any vehicles while it deloyed.
I could see doing that. Perhaps stating that the Ark, once deployed on a stream, is now in neither bordering hex. It would not count towards the stacking limit because it is in the stream.
Here is a photo from Wikipedia showing a Mk I version of the Churchill Ark being used during the Italian Campaign in 1944. It's a Mk I because the tank crossing on top is driving over the Churchill's treads rather than a ramp attached over top. Note that there are two Churchill Arks stacked one on top of the other.
In AAM would this be considered an over stack situation? I would think not. So I'm adding a line to the Bridge Layer special ability to read: "This vehicle does not count towards stacking limits when it is deployed on a stream."
So when deployed onto a stream, this vehicle would not be located in either adjacent hex to the hex side stream terrain. It's creating its' own stacking on the hex side line.
I would guess you would use the AVRE piece as this unit, perhaps when deployed, place it along the hexspine line to leave room on the map for other pieces & show it as "Deployed". I guess straddling would work also.
Could it be targeted by enemy vehicles & if so, would it get any modifiers to to a possible cover roll or just blast away at it...lol

Miniature Tanks Company has one in 3D printed plastic which I built. This one is deployed and I intend to get another one to model in the travel position.
Thanks curt. By the way Miniature Tanks Company is starting to gear up again. I'll mention to James you might be ordering some minis and who you are from the Forums.
Thank you maus, I certainly will get in contact with him.
A question for you, someone from the old Underground forum has a set of Deluxe Squad Leader boards & had posted some pics of a game on them. I seem to recall it was you or someone you know & game with. I say this because if there is a way to use them for some online games, I'd love to try them out. I have used my set several times & I like them a lot.
Anyway, let me know about that & I will get in touch with MTC.
I do have two of the map sets. There still packed away in a tote from the last Maize-con (you know, back when Christ was still a Corporal). I'll be out of town tomorrow till Sunday but I'll look for them when I'm back and let you know what they are. I think there was only two sets available if I remember right.
Howdy, Yes, there are 2 sets of mapboards that you & I have in common & on the ASL website, I think I saw a couple more Deluxe boards. I will look again & see if they are in print & available possibly. The sets we have would be "Streets of Fire" & "Hedgerow Hell", city/urban combat & serious bocage country.
No rush on digging them out & it is nice to learn you do have them. I'm sure we can get some use from them, they are fun as I recall.
