The HMS Ark Royal under attack!

Firehouse and I linked up for a by-phone game of AAAF today.
I chose the Fleet Arm Arm, tasked with protecting the HMS Ark Royal from a wave of Regia Aeronautica attackers. Dave had at his disposal, a paper cutout of the SM.79, a Ju-87, a Re2001 Fighter-Bomber and a Re2001 Falco II.
The Fleet Air Arm was equipped with two Martlets (Wildcat repaints) and two Fairey Fulmars.
The Ark Royal was represented by the piece of white foam core board in the photo, with two AA positions on board. The carrier moved westward one hex per turn.
Turn One ended without any firing positions.
Turn Two ended with several firing positions, but no hits scored.
Turn Three ended with a hit on the Stuka and a hit on one of the Martlets.
Turn Four got nasty, with the Fighter-Bomber strafing the Ark Royal, and while being targetted by the forward AA position (three ones in a row!) managing to escape AA damage, while taking a single point of damage from FAA fighters. 10 points for the Regia Aeronautica.
Turn Five was rather bloody. The SM.79 loosed its torpedo and scored a close-range hit (for 25 points for the Italians). The Stuka was destroyed right over the Ark Royal's flight deck w/o successfully bombing it, handing 20 points to the FAA, and the Fighter-Bomber and the Sm.79 were both hit. But the Italians splashed the damaged Martlet, for 32 points: 67 points in total and past the game-winning threshold of 60 points.
The FAA was handicapped by several aircraft being out of position for many shots. In the final turn, two aircraft were too far of the combat zone to contribute much to the fight. There will a stern lecture in the ward room later.
