Lets be honest gents, there is no definitive definition for what constitutes a 'Patrol Bomber'. Fighter, Torpedo Bomber, and Dive Bomber are pretty well defined types historically. We've got a number of planes in game that fall into the 'Patrol Bomber' category that either didn't do a lot of 'patroling' and/or a lot of 'bombing'. I'm certain each of us has our own opinion on where we'd draw the line with various aircraft types historically, and we might even agree in most cases, but there is certainly a grey area. From a Historical sense, I don't think anyone would call a Walrus a Dive Bomber or Fighter. I think it would get called a "Floatplane" or "Scoutplane" or some such thing.
I'd encourage a perspective that leads to the aircraft type selected for planes like the Walrus based on the *in game* effects we want the plane to have. If we want it to place well at night, not worry about recovery checks and have an ability to be escorted, Patrol Bomber potentially saves SA space. If we want it to be poor at night, but still want escort to work...then Dive Bomber. If we don't want it to be good at night or be able to be Escorted...Fighter. Personally, I think the rules in the rulebook that fit the Walrus best are associated with Patrol Bombers, hence my reason for advocating using that type. It is not because I think Walrus = Sunderland, if that makes sense.
It would certainly be easier if we had more types of planes defined in the rulebook like Level Bomber, Floatplane, Jet, etc. But unfortunately we're stuck with just 4 types, and those types are tied to rules in the rulebook and on other cards. There might be ways around that are satisfying ecstatically, but I think its going to take a far amount of additional SA text on the card to tie up all the lose ends.
