If you are still interested, how about a follow-up of 150 points? Germans/Italians vs Commonwealth?
Takeaways from my first online game: 1) Destroyers are way more valuable than I gave them credit for 2) Splitting up wasn't helpful 3) I probably should have taken the fight to you sooner, rather than heading north for that far-off objective 4) Man that opening dice roll with the Re 2001s was bad!
Any thoughts you have for this newbie are much appreciated!
Happy to play another game. I'll set up a new thread and post a link here. Sticking with official cards only again (fine with me)?
- The AA against the Re.2001s was just insanely lucky - don't judge them too harshly. Consider taking a Fighter with the Escort SA. Also, while its hard to do in a 100 point game, if you're going to use attack aircraft, try to being 3 + an escort fighter. You're more likely to overwhelm your opponents AA and get at least some bombers through. Fighters with less than 7 AA are generally ineffective. If you want a really strong Patrol Bomber group, 2xSM.79 + 1xJu-88 (divide the defense) + 1xBf-109 can be pretty potent. - Your other assessments are all pretty fair. Splitting up can be very dangerous if the other guy has a strong air attack. Chasing objectives can be tricky. Sometimes it works, but sometimes you're better off just going toe-to-toe with your opponent and denying him the opportunity to take objectives. - If you've got the stronger air attack, consider staying away from a gun battle, take an objective, then back off. Buy time to let your aircraft work. - DDs can be game changers, but they are not all created equal. They are often good a gunnery, torpedoes, or ASW, but rarely more than one. SAs are really important here - Lay Smoke, Sub Hunter, and Close Escort are particularly valuable. - If you want a build that is good at hiding behind smoke, take a fleet with no Flagship bonus. You're more likely to lose initiative, which makes it easier to hide in/behind smoke. On the other hand, aircraft and submarines tend to benefit more from winning initiative. Just depends what you want to do.
