Has anyone read Shattered Sword which is about "the Battle of Midway"? Just finished reading it and found that IJN carriers are really paper tigers as far as their lack of redundant systems and poor damage control training compared to USN ships. Perhaps the WaS cards for IJN carriers should reflect these weakness.

USN carriers weren't that much better at the start of the war. USS Lexington and USS Wasp had very similar issues. USN damage control training was better, but all the world's navies had to learn the hard way that ships filled with aviation fuel needed a lot more protection than they anticipated. The British extensively re-worked the fueling systems on the escort carriers that the US built because they didn't meet RN standards.
As with many things in this game, if reality was 100% followed there wouldn't be a playable game. Especially after 1942.
Shattered Sword is back in print and available in soft cover and hard cover. I've ordered the hard cover which will be cheaper than ordering an secondhand copy and shipping to Australia :-)
Trying to find it again, but in the book it said that IJN also used bamboo for some of their piping... Yikes....
Bamboo is a great building material. It's strong, doesn't break very easily (being very fibrous, it tends to mush instead of break) and grows very rapidly.
