Akagi is one I am really on the fence about I think it's different enough and equal value compared to its point cost as the original that it's okay.
I don't think there is anything wrong with having jets in the game and I don't think the meteor is broken it's just that double attack you can pull off with the me 262 2x12 probably makes it at least 5 points undercosted .
Operational Hood was a fantastic idea imo.
I do think there is numbers in the game that shouldn't be exceeded for balance whether it's AA ,armor, vital armor (10 is fine for aircraft ), guns/bombs/torps etc, how much offensive/defensive ability you have attacking at range 1 etc.
Which is why things like I can't even call it a fantasy battleship but German fantasy ideas of units that couldn't be damaged and could vital everything in the game in 1 hit ....are a bad idea game balance wise.
As was said elsewhere, the idea with the 262 was to encourage/force (depends on your perspective) players to utilise the better allied fighters, rather than the highly points efficient middle range one - Looking at you mister Wildcat - the optimistic view behind that was that, players would need to make other concession to their fleets and hopefully even the field.
Maybe an SA saying that escort doesn't work against the me262 on fighters of a certain point cost or vital armor with the me 262 having lower AA and no double attack would have been less extreme. I wanted the me 262 as much as anyone haha but I feel bad playing it because it usually vitals 2 bombers a game at least not to mention the aborts.
We didn't increase Spee because doing so would not only obsolete the original but also Scheer and Deutchland.
And I'll ask again; how does the Mi obsolete the original? Because of the extra hull point? That comes at a price and isn't likely to make an enormous difference considering what generally attacks it.
The special abilities? Sure, but that's going to be determined by the build. Want to use smoke effectively? You're not taking this. This version is meant to support other carriers in a carrier fleet. If you're only bringing one fleet carrier and a couple smaller ones, you're not bringing this.
There are as many reasons to not use this as there are to do so
MI Akagi is more like an RB's Operational units than most of the others done, it did leave an avenue of use for the Original;; BUT this is not the point the point is why are Operational units being done in the fashion they are;;
RB's R Bismarck did not have the Operational date he was not going to run the line much longer, so it was not a restraint on his product;;; IT IS for the forever moving forward expansion decks.
He did not obsolete the two original units with this operational units;; Expansion has with its!!
FOR example Graf Spee could have been done in a similar fashion as RB's R Bismarck;; Hood should have had the Operational date;; no matter that 90% of the players hated Fatal Flaw it would have left a choice;; to me a key in moving the game forward without obsoleting anything.
I agree with some analogy's you are going to move forward with Operational units or eventually doing REFITS Depending on the Team members a lot of changes are coming how it effects the Forum or game is still up in the air.
Somethings should probably be discussed; I don't think we need another Pennsylvania situation because we refuse to change a date. It is certainly hard to improve some units use without obsoleting the original;;but it should be a teams top priority to try even if you have to move away from how it was done before.
We didn't increase Spee because doing so would not only obsolete the original but also Scheer and Deutchland.
You wouldn’t need an increase in the GS’s stats. Someone suggested an SA that reduced the damage of the first torp hit. Anything similar would have done.
The GS was physically different to her sisters and Letting an SAs represent those differences means there doesn’t need to a change in the core stats.
