First the bad news. There has been a delay at the printer and it will be a couple more weeks until the deck is ready. So the good news is I am going to do another Opening Salvo. Since I haven't had time to run a poll I am just going to pick them this week. I present to you the French Dewointine D.551 fighter and the Italian CANT Z.511 "float plane" patrol bomber. Both of them development team picks.
This one had quite a bit of discussion just deciding what to pick. The greatest desire was giving the French a good mid-war native fighter. That lead us to either the Arsenal VG-33 or the Dewointine D.551. Both of them in experimental prototype stage. With Painleve coming into the game there was also a desire for the fighter to be carrier capable. That tipped the decision to the Dewointine on the assumption the D.551 could be converted to carrier capable just as was being planned for the D.520. Anyway, that is our story and we are sticking with it!

This card slot started out for the Piaggio P.108 bomber. However, after many pages of discussion we just couldn't come up with a way to make a level bomber that had limited operational use into something game worthy. When we stalled out Flak suggested we do the CANT Z.511. I had never heard of it, but when I saw the link I admit I instantly fell in love! (Amore!) Such a beautiful aircraft. A giant four-engine plane on floats! One was built and actually used, the second prototype was just being completed at time of the Italian surrender. Think of it as the Italian CAMS 141. I have provided a link to a YouTube video about the aircraft. It reminds me of a Condor or Lockheed Constellation on floats.
