A couple thoughts here; Should they get 4 dice at long range? 2 dice seems almost pointless, since they took pride in their Marksmanship. Also, how about a Hand to Hand attack value? They were trained in this, so why not have a perhaps HtH attack value of 8, seems logical to me.
Any thoughts my fellow foruminians? Thanks in advance.
I always wondered about that 2 dice long range. Pretty lame if you asked me, the best you can do with it is to re-disrupt an already disrupted artillery piece.

800 yards for a 30.06, either a Springfield or Garand is quite doable for a trained rifleman actually. The Marines were trained in Marksmanship, so IMO, this unit should get at least 4 dice @ long range.
As for HtH attack value, WotC should have given them at least 8, maybe even 10, the Gurkha's got 10, so 8 or 10 for Marines would be reasonable I'd think.

I must respectfully disagree about the effective range of these rifles with open sights. I own a Garand rifles in 30-06 and do not believe that anyone could "accurately" shoot at 800 yards. The weapon will shoot that far but not with any degree of accuracy.
I cant explain why they dont have H to H. I can easily be house ruled for scenarios.
I had a 1903A3 Model Springfield years ago, with apeture sights & it was very accuate well beyond 500 yards. I have shot Garands & M1 A's( Springfield Armory semi-auto versions of the M14) & 500 to 1000 yards are not impossible with training & practice.
I agree with you that these rifles shoot very long distances, however in the hands of a trained Marksman, 800 to 1000 yards is doable & can also be accurate, operative word is trained & lotsa practice. Look up the Marines at Belleau Woods in World War 1. That is where they were first called "Devil Dogs" by the Germans for the Marines shooting them at ranges of 800+ yards. They were using 1903 Model Springfields.
I still think the Marine Rifleman in AAM should have 4 dice at Long Range, WotC missed the mark on that one. HtH should also be a Special Ability for them.
For the Marine Rifleman, you are looking at it from an angle of historicity. WotC had to look at it from the angle of game balance. If you are giving the unit (in addition to its current abilities) 4 dice at long range AND a HTH value of 8 or more, you are not talking about a 4 cost unit any more. More like 6+.
