With the recent Miniature Market sale I bought a case of Bandits High. At $47.50 for the box, discounted by using all the rewards points I ever saved up, and with a birthday code from a friend, I practically got the thing for free. How could I pass that up?
I opened all eight of them last night. I don't know if it's common, expected, or rare, but I got 24 different aircraft in the box. What would you hope to get in a case, or in a booster?
Going in, I was hoping to get a couple of each of the French planes in the set and of course the chase pieces, the bombers. I also wanted some Zeroes and Wildcats to duke it out over the Pacific.
I'll post the boosters one at a time with photos, but what would you hope for?
For some reason I have gotten more of the silver Japanese planes than anything else. None of these were pieces I didn't have yet, but I was glad to get the Buffalo and Corsair. It's funny, I can't stand the Buffaloes in War at Sea but I do like this Buffalo. It's the cheap fodder plane that also happens to be pretty durable for what you get. It's also a true-blue proxy for the Finnish Buffalo that I don't have.
Yep, that's back-to-back boosters with Corsairs. This one co-stars IAR 80A and LA5-FN Ace. Marine Corsair is one you guys shouted out, so let's take a look at that. High-Speed Performance is nice, and just in case you happened to score 7 successes on a veteran, there's Rugged to offer a save. Yep, nice plane. This is my second USMC.
I like the Romanian planes, and especially the IAR since it's the native craft. I don't think a swarm of IARs would do very well, though. My buddy who I have played with really likes the Axis minors and doesn't have any pieces himself, so he will be glad to have that made available to him. I had one of the 109s and another of these IARs already, so now I have a trio to fly at 79 points.
I've played the LA-5 before and really enjoyed it. It has an offensive SA, a defensive SA, and a maneuvering SA for a very nice package. Not that it needed any of that, just by looking at the stats it's a good plane: high vital, 3 hull, very good maneuver stats, just a little bit undergunned at range. Add on the SAs and things are just that much better. Oh, and it's an Ace. Score. This is my second as well.
I got one of the ones I bought the case for. Here's hoping for more of the same to come.
A6M3 Zero Rookie was the last of the Japanese planes I didn't have from this set. I have several of each of the other ones and this is a welcome addition. It's interesting to look at an iconic plane with a less-than-worthy pilot. No wonder these didn't stand a chance against Hellcats and Corsairs.
Fw 190D Dora is also my first from this set. I only have the Afrika Korps Ace to go with it so far. I really like the paint job on this one, and it seems like a very capable machine with good stats all around.
