FFFL - Saved Information for Future Tournaments

:: New for FFFL 2016 ::[/size]
The FFFL is all about promoting the variety in the game. For this year, we are adding back in battleships costing 50 points or more, but we are excluding all Hull 6 battleships. Shinano, Midway, and HMS Queen Mary all remain available (unless blacklisted).

To compensate for the influx of new units, the FFFL 2016 will also bring back the blacklist from last year, but it will last for two rounds in the typical snake draft style. This means, we will be looking at 40 of your favorite (or least favorite) units excluded from the game! A unit blacklisted may not be drafted or used in any fleet. It should be interesting to see if people fear big BBs or other units more.

UPDATE 4/12/2016.[/color] No more than 20% (rounded to nearest whole number) of a specific type of unit can be blacklisted. E.g., there are 14 dive bombers. Only 3 can be blacklisted. The total that can be blacklisted are written next to the unit types name.

To make up for the loss of so many units, all the Team Decks (Poseidon through Kraken) (minus the above units of course) will be available along with the LuckyY recosted units from last year. Additionally, the roster spots and OOB rules are identical to last year (may change before we get started). What kind of fleet will you try to muster?

:: Unit Draft :: [/size]
The players will participate in a unit draft (draft order randomly determined) where they will select units based on classes from which they can assemble their fleets like a fantasy football team. Once you've drafted a ship or class to your fleet, no one else may use that unit. The draft will run snake style (Rd1: 1,2,3,...,11,12; Rd2: 12,11,10,etc.) with the exception of a snaked Round Zero where players will select units that may not be taken by anyone.

:: Unit Types:: [/size]
Capital ships:[/b][/i] Battleships, Battlecruisers, and non-CVE carriers will be played as unique units only (you may only use one of each CV, BB or BC (with the exceptions of Alaska, Courbet, October Revolution, Marat, and Parishnaya Kommuna as detailed below).

Old Coastal BBs and Monitors such as Gustav V, HMS Roberts, Schwelsig-Holstein, Schlesien, Kilkis, and Soerbaja while classed as BB's will count as Cruisers for drafting and OOB purposes, then act as BB's in game.

Cruisers/Auxillaries:[/u][/i] Cruisers/Auxillaries are unique units in the FFFL 2016 until you have brought one of each of three of your drafted cruiser/aux units. If three unique cruiser/aux units are present in your fleet you may begin to repeat.

In other words, each unique cruiser can only be brought in numbers equal to (=) our one greater than (+1) the number of second and third unique cruisers you have in your fleet.

Examples:
Drafted roster: Belfast, Houston, Kent, Kirov

Example 1: OK
Belfast x2, Houston x2, Kent x1, Kirov x0
- Belfast and Houston are only 1 more than the Kent.

Example 2: OK
Belfast x3, Houston x2, Kent x2, Kirov x1
- Belfast is only 1 more than the Houstons and Kents.

Example 3: OK
Belfast x4, Houston x4, Kent x3, Kirov x2
- Since the first three cruisers are within 1 unit of each other, Kirov numbers don't matter if they are less.

Example 4: OK
Belfast x4, Houston x4, Kent x4, Kirov x4
- So first three cruisers are all of the same number, so the fourth can be as well.

Example 5: NOT OK
Belfast x4, Houston x2, Kent x2, Kirov x1
- There are only two Houstons and Kents but four Belfasts

Example 6: NOT OK
Belfast x3, Houston x2, Kent x1, Kirov x1
- There is only one Kent or Kirov but three Belfasts

Example 7: NOT OK
Belfast x2, Houston x1, Kent x0, Kirov x0
- No third cruiser drafted before taking two Belfasts

Aircraft, DDs, and MTBs:[/u][/i] will be drafted as exclusive rights to use as many of those units as you want, within fleet guidelines (300 points, 25 unit limit, air/carrier capacities).

CVE's: are also exclusive rights units, however each must be accompanied by one DD. Further, you must have 2 surface units for each sub.

Subs: are also exclusive rights units, however you must have 2 surface units for each sub.

Wildcard slots: will be filled in during the last rounds of drafting and can be filled with any unit still available (BB, CV, CA/CL, DD, sub, Aux, MTB, Plane etc.) A new "wild" draft order will be in place for the wildcard rounds.

During the draft, players will have a maximum of 24 hours to make their selection. If no unit has been chosen within the rounds grace period, the worst units available (IMHO) will be automatically assigned to you starting with the least valuable roster slots. You wanted that Sub Chaser in round 2 right?


:: Unit Transactions :: [/size]
Before or between matches you can replace units in your fleet with "free agent" units by dropping and adding, or you can trade units with other players, but you cannot overload any of the class slots (no stocking up on BB's/air/etc) and you must have a full class load at all times after the draft. All transactions will be tracked on a thread in the subforum.

Add/Drop
If you are not currently playing a match, you can add or drop units freely. However, if you have a match in progress, you cannot add/drop units for the next match until the Thursday before it is scheduled to start. The composition of the fleet you are currently playing will not change, but the roster changes will be available for the upcoming match. Add/drops are on a first come, first served basis, but if your match is not completed by the Thursday before the transfer will not be registered and another player can claim the free agent unit.

Trades
Unit trades between players will be an important way to upgrade/augment your fleet. Trades will most likely include units of the same type, but are not required to. However, you must maintain a complete roster at all times so extra adds/drops may be required to complete a trade.

Also, all trades should be fair. All trades are subject to a 12-24 hour period where the trade must be "proposed" to the public. Any arguments for or against the trade will be heard. The moderators will make a ruling as to whether or not the trade is made in good faith and allow the trade to happen, or block and deny the trade.
Trade proposals can be made while matches are being played, but will not affect any units currently in play. Trades will not take affect until the next round of battles.

Once Round 5 begins, all rosters will be locked. Players may still add units from the free agent pool until the end of the season. The 4 players who move to the championship rounds will be able to add or drop units and only from the free agent pool - No trades will be allowed. It is poor sportsmanship for an eliminated player to drop their roster or their "good" units for someone else to pickup, and it will not be allowed.

All "up-to-date" fleet rosters will be found in the appropriate thread of this sub forum after the draft.


:: Fleet Building :: [/size]
Fleet building Guidelines:
All fleets for the FFFL 2016 are 250 point fleets. A unit's nationality does not matter for fleet construction. Any plane (that can base on a carrier) can base on any nation's carrier. There is a 25-unit limit in place and a 9 plane land air base. Additionally, all fleets must use the modified OOB rules outlined below:



Special Rules:
1) Alaska and the Old Soviet Battleships - Alaska, Oktober Revolution, Courbet, Marat, and Parishnaya Kommuna are all available with a special twist. Being that these guys count like big guys we're going to offer a deal on them. Normally, EACH battleship must have a cruiser & 2 DDs with them for OOB purposes. With these 4 ships, you can take TWO for the OOB cost of one with only 1 cruiser and 2 DDs escorting the pair. The pair will count as ONE capital ship slot both for draft purposes, and fleet building. Thus, if you draft OktRev, you may bring 1 OktRev + 1 CA/CL + 2 DD/DDE or you may bring 2 OktRev + 1 CA/CL + 2 DD/DDE. This should add value to these ships in the draft, but also a strategic twist. New in 2016--Courbet but not Bretagne is being treated as a double-deal. Bretagne is treated as a normal BB.

Specific Unit Issues:
1) Installations: The HSB/FAS/ANB are not draftable units, because anyone can use them. New in 2016--Oscarsborg will also be treated as a neutral non-draftable unit that can be used by anyone.

2) Scharnhorst/Hood/Zuikaku: Aufergeruste Scharnhorst and Scharnhorst, Hood and OpCatapult Hood, Zuikaku and Coral Sea Zuikaku are separate units with different values and strategies of play. Thus even though they represent the same ship, they can be drafted by 2 different people. A player may legally have both Hood and OpCat Hood on their roster.

3) Alaska/Von der Tann: Alaska is classed as a BATTLESHIP for draft, build, and setup purposes. Once the match begins (setup is complete) Alaska counts as a CRUISER as labeled. In game terms - drafting Alaska takes one of your battleship slots. Putting Alaska into your fleet (or 2x Alaska as outlined above) takes one of your capital ship slots and counts as a battleship. When you place Alaska on the map it counts as a battleship and thus may NOT be put with Rheinubung Bismarck off the map or be placed in a forward position with Schwelsig-Holstein. However, IMMEDIATELY after both sides have set up, Alaska now counts as a cruiser. Thus "Establish Screen" may be used on Alaska, and Alaska is subject to SA's such as Cruiser Hunter, Cruiser Killer, Raider Hunter, Cruiser Leader, etc. It is not subject to small ship evasion or anti/pro BB SA's.
Von der Tann is the flipside of that coin. VdT will always count as a cruiser.

4) Ju87 Stukas and Ju87 R2 Piccatelli: Though the cards state that these units are land-based, both of these nations have carriers with the SA Stuka Operations so they are more useful carrier-borne bombers. Since nationality is being scratched for this competition, both the Stuka and Piccatelli may base on any carrier from any nation.

5) Bearn/Hornet: Bearn has the SA Wildcat Operations which has been interpreted to allow wildcats into Axis builds where they would normally be disallowed. Similarly Hornet has B25 operations. Since the Wildcat and the B25 are planes that must be drafted, only the drafters of the Wildcat and B25 may use those units, regardless of who drafts Bearn or Hornet.

6) Any other unit-specific issues can be asked below for a ruling.


:: Matches/Tournament :: [/size]
Matches will be played on a randomly rolled custom map (1d8) from the maps thread. With fleets of 250 pts, the winner will be declared at 375 points. Objectives and Surface Fleet-Elimination bonuses will be 125 pts each. If neither fleet can meet the 375 pts, the fleet with the most points at the time of draw will win.

Matches should be played until one player reaches the 375 points necessary for a conclusive win. Records will be kept for the results of all matches. The standings will be kept with the following ranking tie-breakers.

1) Overall Record
2) Division Record
3) Points Differential (highest diff between points scored and points against)

Playoffs/Championship
At the conclusion of the regular season, there will be a seeded, single elimination tournament for the playoffs and championship. Seeding will be determined by the same tie-breakers as above. The number of players who qualify for the playoffs will depend on the number who sign up to compete in the league.

Timing [/size]
Timing is critically important. Each round of matches will start on a Saturday and you will have 2 weeks to complete your match. Any matches not finished by the end of each Match Saturday (a one day overage - for a total of 15 days) will have a winner declared (typically highest points) with harsh point penalties being assessed against players who are guilty of "delays of game". Real world events and delays happen, please let both opponents and a moderator know, and these will also be factored into any win cutoffs that must be determined.

With the short schedule it is important that participants are able to be active posters. During the season, "delay of games" will result in a winner being declared before a match is officially over as games must finish within 15 days. If you must drop out of the tournament, please let a Moderator know so we can arrange an alternate player for your fleets.
Matches cannot be "played ahead". Due to the add/drop/trade rules you cannot start multiple matches at the same time. This will also help the FFFL from interfering with other Forumini Competitions or the NCLC/TCLC Club Seasons that might overlap.

All match decisions that must be made by the moderators will be final!


:: Prizes :: [/size]
Prizes are up in the air this year with the loss of 12-7-Games' sponsorship. We are floating some ideas around and hope to have prizes available. One suggestion has been to ask participants (where possible) to donate a "booster" of extra ships; an actual booster; or Shapeways unit(s) (painted or unpainted) to be used as prizes. We will explore these options as we get underway.

I chose not to bring the updated Baltimore as the 18 cost TDef baltimore represents an appropriate cost even if the SA is unwarranted.
