Has anyone experimented with different victory conditions then the regular objectives/points? With my mediterranean map I have based the points on shore bombardment/landings, vital cargo, political points (sinking enemy capital ships) and minor points for rescue operations.
If units don't have those SA's they gain them in increment of the unit types (shorebombardment BB= 10, cruiser = 5, destroyer = 3) (vital cargo aux only or carriers transporting planes in a malta scenario =10) (rescue operations all sea units = 1) (political points is the point cost of the capital ship any BB or min 1 cap + carrier). And if a unit already has a landing/shorebombardment/rescue operations SA they can use that and add the regular pts from their SA to the scenario victory points for performing those actions.
For the mediterranean mat it simulates the idea of supplying/bombarding/capturing malta or any of the surrounding areas better. Though in regular games I have always been a fan of the point/objective system.
I am currently working on 8-card "fleets" based around historic operations (e. g. a Royal Navy Cape Spartivento fleet), where each fleet has a Strategic Doctrine card, which removes one objective and replaces it with a point scoring mechanic suited towards that fleet. It also gives the fleet an ability to make scoring those points easier.
The Royal Navy's is: [UK] Distant Convoy 1940 Fleet Doctrine—Strategy
Strategy: Your fleet may only contain one copy of this card. Covering Force: Remove 1 objective from the map during your Set Up. At the end of each turn, you score Objective/5 points if your opponent's Ships are only on their side of the map. Otherwise, your opponent scores 10 points. Screening Action: Friendly Ships roll one extra die when making Gunnery and Torpedo attacks at Range-1 or closer.

I like the concept of taking off an objective and making another way of earning points. If both sides play it, you still have one objective and two other ways to earn points.
