I am attempting to present a number of naval battles of WW2 from start to finish. My first instalment will cover the first year of the war from Sep 39 to Aug 40. I have done many of these before, but I was never quite happy due to a lack of cards. The release of the Team cards has, and is continuing to, fill in many gaps. For the units I still don't have, I will either utilise the existing Forumini custom cards, or my own custom cards. These are kindly being produced by Jakk24. I was very impressed with his KM cards, and I am pleased that he has agreed to produce mine for me. He has named the deck 'Sudden Strike'.
For ease of design the battles will mostly be based on the existing scenarios i.e., Convoy, 100, 200, 300 and 500 point battles. I will add 150 and 250 point battles and also utilise the Quick start scenario on page 8 of the 2nd edition rule book. There will be the odd special scenario which doesn't fit anything. There will sometimes be minor deviations from the scenario parameters, such as slightly exceeding point totals or unit numbers. There will also be Special and Optional Rules for historical scenario specific situations, but I have tried to keep these to a minimum. Part II, Sep 40 - Aug 41 is almost finished. Feel free to ask me any questions.
All the battles will obviously be very abstract simulations. Most are historically based, some are hypothetical, and some semi-hypothetical.
Each battle will give set up details such as which map to use, who is player one, and specific set up locations of units. In the absence of particular set up details, follow the scenario set up instructions in the rule book.
Each battle will detail any specific victory conditions. Otherwise follow the rule book.
Each battle will detail the historical units present and which units and cards to use for them. The actual model and official (WotC/Team) card are assumed to be in use unless otherwise stated as follows:
CA: Exeter. This means you will use the Exeter model with the official (WotC/Team) Exeter card.
CL: Perth (use Sydney model). This means you will use the Sydney model with the official Perth card.
BC: Scharnhorst (use Gneisenau card). This means you will use the Scharnhorst model with the official Gneisenau card.
CL: Aurora (use Sydney model with Penelope card). This means you will use the Sydney model with the official Penelope card.
DD: Kimberley (use Javelin). This means you will use the Javelin model with the official Javelin card.
Unit multiples will be shown by the 'x' symbol e.g., DD x 3: Bedouin, Eskimo, Punjabi (use Cossack). This means you will use three Cossack models with the official Cossack card.
If a non-official card (Forumini/Sudden Strike) is used, this will be stated.
Unit types are abbreviated as follows:
Battleship = BB, and BC (Battlecruser).
Carrier = CV, CVL (Light Carrier) and CVE (Escort Carrier).
Cruiser = CA (Heavy Cruiser), CL (Light Cruiser), CLAA (Anti-Aircraft Cruiser), and CD (Coast Defence ship).
