25 Oct 1944 – The U.S. has begun to invade the Philippines near Leyte Gulf and Japan has responded with Operation Sho-Go. The IJN plans for the powerful Center Force to transit San Bernardino Strait and engage the landing craft. Admiral Halsey has formed Task Force 34 to guard the passage, leading to a clash of U.S. fast battleships vs. Japanese heavies in the pre-dawn.

Looks excellent! My only concern is that the Jap fleet might have a hard time getting out of the strait and into a workable formation.
Yes I have the same concern and I haven't had time to properly playtest it yet. Or figure out scoring and victory conditions; not sure if I'm going to use objectives or not. Darkness should help the IJN get out of the strait. And Japan definitely would've had that problem if TF34 was guarding the strait. Here is a great article that I used for inspiration:
