Through a series of events that started with playing WaS and Cruel Seas on HMCS Haida in summer 2019 (moored in Burlington Ontario as a museum) I met players from Barrie (about 30 minuets from my house). These players led me to another player in Barrie who took a real shine to AAM and AAAF.
As a result this player has collected over 90 planes for AAAF (special thanks to Boomer Bill) and we play every week over the phone.
We have been liberally using Toyma's and others custom cards to expand our options and to balance flights. It has been tremendous fun and the future looks bright.
Furthermore, I lent him a playable AAM German and Russian army from my large sell collection and we play every few weeks over the phone.
If there is any interest I will post AAR's for our games. I don't know how to post pics which is sad since we use telescopic stands and very cool custom flame and smoke markers.
Last two weeks we played a back to back scenario where the Luftwaffe was bombing England in the early stages.
Luftwaffe had 3 X Me 110s, one vet and two avg plus 2X Stukas
RAF had four hurricanes, 2 X vet and 2 X avg
2 X maps with the RAF starting in pairs on W side altitude 4 and 5, Luftwaffe starts on E side at altitude 4. 2 X ground targets on W side. VPs = 75 points
Bruce won both games; first as the RAF vitaling 2 x Me 110s including the vet and second as the Luftwaffe by bombing both targets and gaining 92 to 85 points.
Interesting point is that both sides can win and games were very close. Both targets were bombed each game and a vital armour of 8 is very doable even with six dice.
The key to this game IMO is to balance aircraft.
Our next game, which is this Wednesday, pits RCAF Squadron 430 flying Mustangs X 2 on a photo reconnaissance mission for the D-Day planners being intercepted by two FW-190s. It will be epic. I am custom painting mustangs in RCAF 430 colours nightly to prepare.
I will post more details and an AAR later.
Good night
