Firehouse and I had another round of Typhoons vs. Bf109s via phone today. For the first game, I took the 109s and tried to prevent Firehouse's two-plane attacking force from bombing the ammo dump and fuel dump on the Axis side of the map. By the end of three turns, it was over. He bombed one of the dumps (a victory requirement) and vitalled my Bf109 Ace. The minor damage done to one of his Typhies by my Wingman was hardly compensation for the vital: It gave him 15 points for the dump attack and 48 points for downing my 109. With that, his requirements for victory (45 points) were met handily.
We followed up on that matchup by switching sides, with Firehouse leading the 109s against the Canadian invaders. I ganged up on his Wingman and crippled it on the first turn — those Typhies pack a punch, even at three hexes away. On the second turn, I was in position to get two rocket attacks on the ammo dump, for 15 points per attack. Crippling the Wingman had already given me 15 points -- so I had the 45 points needed for a win. His Bf109 Ace scored a hit on one of the Typhoons, but the matter was decided, and if the game had continued, I would have simply flown off the map.
The moral of the story is, don’t mess with Canada! Thanks for the AAR and the pictures. I enjoy just looking at the setups, let alone with gameplay or narration.
