Just grabbed a Bandits High Starter for my son and I to play with from the MM sale. They had another two games I was looking for (Quartermaster General WWI and C&C Ancients which weren't technically sale priced) and the price was great with the free shipping so tacked the starter on, which of course is the only thing we've played (shipment came today). Thought it played pretty well, though we were just figuring it out and didn't try any advanced rules. Seems more intuitive than X-Wing or D&D Attack Wing, probably the most similar games I've played a bit. Imagine we'll keep messing around with it a bit but probably got my $9 of game play value already The miniatures are great, actually, if a bit gigantic for my taste (just right for the seven year old though). Might even look at a booster case if the price is right.
Huzzah and welcome to the party. I am an aircraft nut, so the 1/100 scale aircraft are just the right size for repaints (IMO). As you might guess, I have a few. I like running Angels 20/Bandits High at conventions: it's easy to teach, even with some of the advanced rules, and almost all new players come away from the game asking where they can get it. There are various sellers in the Marketplace who have aircraft they are selling. You should have no problem "growing" your collection.
Those who don't remember their history are bound to do something or other...
