Before I went the magnet and rods route (via Topgun Dogfight Flight Stands, the company that Corsec copied, says Topgun's owner), I drilled holes in the bottom of acquired aircraft to use the standard AAAF stand. With varying degrees of success. For the B-17s I used in convention play, I just used the stands they came with and said they were remaining at the same altitude throughout the game. The Topgun flight stands have changed the look of the game dramatically. But it cost me nearly $200 USD (over several shipments) to get enough stands to do a large-ish battle. Try emailing Rob Kent at rkentjr@hotmail.com for info about his stands.
Those who don't remember their history are bound to do something or other...
My corsec stands use a small metal grommet that fits into the hole on the bottom of the model. I hold it in place with silly-putty. The telescopic rod has a round magnet at the top and it connects to the metal grommet on the bottom of the plane and allow it to take status positions. I needed a grommet, telescopic rod, and base for each plane. I bought enough to do 10 planes at a time and it cost around $100 US about five years ago.
