Gentlemen, I have some questions about how Colonna was rated verses Alsace. 1. Why is Alsace a 6 hull BB, while Colonna is a 5 hull BB? From what I can find on the web, Alsace comes in at 45500 tons while Colonna comes in at 52500 tons. 2. Why does Alsace had tertiary guns but Colonna does not? Alsace has 24 3.9" in 12 twin turrets, Colonna has 24 3.5" in 12 twin turrets. It looks like the Italians got short changed. Can someone shed some light on this? And yes, my heritage is Italian, I am 3rd generation Italian/American.

okay ... let me take a whack at it.
1. Make sure you are reading the correct tonnages, as ships are rated by 3 different tonnages and if we compare the wrong ones, we get bad info. The "standard" displacement for Alsace is 45,500 while Colonna comes in at 42,000. Easy error to make. These are borderline numbers, to be sure. (Europa @ 44,000; Hood @ 42,670; Impero @ 41,337; Tosa @ 45,000: they all get hull 5, in accordance with the guidelines, found at: forumini.boards.net/thread/15/guidelines-stats)
2. Tertiary guns? I am the self-proclaimed master of them, and noticed that RB was inconsistent in awarding them, and the teams have stayed within his guidelines. I came up with a consistent set of rules, and have added either 2nd's or 3rd's to over 40 units. Colonna is one of them. (See thread at: forumini.boards.net/thread/69/missing-gun-lines-88-125mms )
MC got short-changed NOT because she's Italian, but because 3.5" (88mm) is ignored on some ships, and counted on others. (It's a pet-peave of mine.)
Let's remember that the Alsace had THREE different hull designs in the works, and none of them came to fruition. The team chose the hull they did based on separating the unit from her earlier "half-sisters". She is NOT a mistake, she was chosen because she is hull 6.
(Note: I had planned to make an Alsace of a different hull design which would have been hull 5, and when I saw the team doing this one, I decided to do my "All Guns" version of the team card instead. That's why I remember the discussion about which of the 3 hull designs to choose.)
