On the old forum a bunch of years back I was inquiring about AAM basic tactics/knowledgs and was told that trucks/transports are generally needed.
I have played a games over the years and do own some but what are all the trucks/transports available that one needs (I play all nations) and how many do you usually bring to a 100 point match?
I’ve been told this too. I don’t understand what the advantage is, though. You start the game loaded on a truck and move, then dismount in the firing phase? Or stay on for several turns? Don’t they get destroyed very easily if they get moved into combat, and then you lose your unit being carried?
You can begin loaded on a transport unit. The transport unit moves & the mounted unit can dismount in the Movement Phase instead of remaining boarded. You cannot mount/dismount in the Assault Phase. Units with "Mechanized Tactics" (Panzergrenadiers/Motorized Schutzen) can mount the transport, the transport unit can move, then they can dismount. Otherwise units can only mount or dismount in the Movement Phase. "Fighting Platform", halftracks & Kangaroos allow the mounted unit to fire in the Assault Phase as long as the transport unit does not move in the Assault Phase. Russians have "Exposed Transport" for most of their tanks. Same rules for mounting/dismounting apply & they can be attacked whereas units in trucks/halftracks cannot be attacked, the vehicle must be attacked.
Trucks and half tracks are good for scenarios or games with large map areas and lots of roads/bridges.
They are very fragile and the controller must be careful with their usage and not waste the "cargo" but they can be used very effectively to move units up to strategic positions and sometimes return for more units. I have designed many historical scenarios that use a wide variety of transports
Plus a Fighting platform can be a formidable weapon with a MG or Bazooka or flamethrower etc... on it.
Expensive as in costing a lot to add a mini to your collection?
Yes like $$$$$$ and hard to find. Do people play a lot of d-day beachfront scenarios in AAM? I remember being told about it years ago I can't remember the reasoning just told to avoid it because it's expensive $$$$ and has little game value. I actually wanted it because of AAAF as a token/target for bombing VP.
Yeah, it’s got to be a supply and demand issue. It’s a rare from an early set, and since they’re cheap scenario pieces people also want a lot of them. Lots of demand and few pieces mean high prices and few for sale.
The prices on some are quite mind boggling sometimes.....I 've paid enough to know but we do have options to a degree....aftermarket & some assembly required at times....been there, doing it & thanks to cardmakers for expanding our options...gotta love that! Happy Gaming!
