...and btw, fantastic reference to an all time great song. Incredibly haunting lyrics and imagery. RIP Glen Campbell and a great job by a HOF songwriter, Jimmy Webb.
Is anyone familiar with the Avalanche Press Great War at Sea, Second World War at Sea, and newer 2nd Great War at Sea line of board wargames?
The first 2 are based on various campaigns of the actual wars and the fairly simple mechanics behind the games are not dissimilar to WaS mini's rules. The 2nd Great War Series is an alternative history universe that posits the great European powers ended WWI with an earlier negotiated peace before the USA entered the war which was actually proposed by Woodrow Wilson. More importantly it allowed for the combatants to get out of the war before they bled themselves dry.
The series has allowed the publisher to go as far back as the Spanish-American War and up to the early '60's and they have included historical pre WWI era, pre-dreadnoughts, armored cruisers, protected cruisers, etc. up to super battleships (Hull 6 in WaS terms) and hybrid carriers for many navies.
Which is a long way of saying maybe it's time to expand beyond the ever shrinking resource of WWII era ships/planned ships? Would there be interest in a card series based around the Battles of Manila, Santiago, Tsushima, Port Arthur, Yellow Sea for the historical gamers and/or the historically proposed, but not economically feasible, expanded more powerful BB ship based navies of many countries in the interwar period between WWI and WWII for the "fantasy" gamers?
I would think some of the fantastic Shapeways sculptors would be willing to provide mini's (some are already on there) if there was enough interest.
