I have played a lot of naval games over the years/decades :-)
In all of these games I've had to sail them, race them, row them and battle them but not until now have I had to build them.
I've just brought the game "SHIPYARD". The reviews rate Shipyard highly and after reading the rules I understand why. There's so much to do. Raise revenue, hire staff, trade commodities, build sections of ships, fabricate equipment, hire crew and rent a a shakedown canal at the same time try and fill government contracts.
You can build what ever you like. Warships, passenger liners, sailing ships, steam ships, little ships, big ships, fast ships and slow ships.
It's not everyones type of game but it's certainly my type of game and now I only have to find other people who want to build ships also. :-)
If you like "builder" games and having to make lots of discussions then this game is worth looking at.
that actually sounds kind of neat. I just bought a simple illustration book on a Man-O-War. it has a lot of 'neat' ideas for construction etc. I might have to check that out for more idea...not that I don't have plenty to do already!
Well I got my first game in tonight and it didn't disappoint. You can try and build your ships on the cheap but you may miss out on the crew, equipment, commodities etc. that will help you score points. Unless your willing to invest and pay for the prize components you won't win. The game is quite simple and turns are fast pace but the range of choices you have to make is large. Can't wait to play my next game, I think I will try to build warships next time.
