I attended a special pre-screening on Tuesday, and the movie did NOT disappoint. I've posted a "movie review" of sorts in the Lounge.
Don't think I fully knew what to expect going in. But really enjoyed the non-linear nature of the plotting. Saw it in 70 mm: the attention to detail is astounding.
Those who don't remember their history are bound to do something or other...
I saw it a few days ago - I am still not convinced that its a good movie - IMHO if made in the early 40s it would make a good propaganda piece.
I was quite turned off by the look of many of the (naval) ships - too modern IMHO
Planes were OK to good
Soldiers were somehow exchangeable - I never could tell who was who, but OTOH Soldiers in unifrom ARE similar in looks
The best part was the Moonstone scenes - those people really had personalities and backstory attached (I especially liked Dawson - a very down to the earth personality)
I am not sure what timeframe the picture showed - but I can't imagine it being more than a day - weather changed from sunny to overcast erratically iMHO, so that made the setting a bit irreal, also the Diunkirk (night) lights - I can't imagine a town under siege being THAT illuminated.
