I thought Dunkirk was ... just okay. Great cinematography, special effects, scale, etc. but I thought that the dialogue and story-telling, such as it was, was rather weak. I've seen some critics even calling Dunkirk "one of the greatest war movies ever" which is simply ridiculous IMHO.

I remember reading or heating somewhere that they specifically didn't have a lot of dialogue. Guess they wanted to let the actions speak for themselves?

So I finally got around to seeing this last night and couldn't agree more... really underwhelmed/disappointed overall.
I found that the overall movie filled me with a distressed sense of urgent helplessness, lol. Very uncomfortable to watch. (In the impactful way, not the poor quality way)
I like that you never see any Germans, yet they're an ever present threat.
Solid movie. One of the best? Arguable.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch be yours to hold it high. -In Flanders Fields. John McCrea
Depends on the sort of war movies you like maybe. if you get a kick out of kit and explosions it'd be a bit bland. But i kinda thought i was a really really good movie and probably well timed to remind, or educate people of the harsh realities of war.
Cdr. Clouston's name endures in Memorial Hall's Book of Remembrance at McGill. His epitaph reads: "Time dims not the achievements of the brave. But worth shines steadfast even from the grave."
Great story of another bit of WWII history
Audacity!
Every day I know less about WWII because every day I realise there is more to know!
